Job Description
The Abstractor reviews clinical documentation from medical records and other sources, abstracts key clinical information from these sources, and accurately inputs the information into the appropriate patient record into Epic. Abstractors may also perform other quality reviews on outgoing correspondence and other documentation. The abstractor may be responsible for the training of new or existing staff. The abstractor works under the direction of the HIM Manager. Position requires high level of customer service skills to establish and enhance positive relationships with providers, co-workers and others.

Shift Start/End: 8:00 AM/4:30 PM
Hours Per Pay Period: 80
Compensation Range: $17.62 - $26.25 / hour
Union: DC USWA Main & Neighborhoods (DCUMN)
FTE: 1
Weekends: NO

- Graduate of Medical Secretary, Medical Transcriptionist, Medical Assistant or other Healthcare related programs.
- Minimum 1 year experience as a medical transcriptionist, medical secretary, or CMA with extensive working knowledge of patient health care records.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology
- Ability to transcribe using with Microsoft Word
- Intermediate keyboard and musing skills in a Windows environment
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
- Ability to use good judgment and discernment in identifying information to be abstracted.
- Ability to concentrate in a sometimes noisy setting
- Ability to do multi-tasking with frequent interruptions
- Ability to effectively meet productivity and performance standards
- Possess ability to pay attention to accuracy and detail.
