Animal Care Specialist 1 - Rainforest Trail - $21/HR - $22/HR - #185483

Job Summary: The Butterfly Habitat is seeking an entomologist with collegiate experience in entomology or a related biological field. The applicant will have hands on experience with all non-venomous invertebrates and other animals at the Butterfly Habitat, as well as helping maintain the collection.

Primary Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of all assigned areas.
• Diet preparation and record keeping.
• Retrieve food and supplies from freezer and kitchen.
• Maintain cleanliness of offices and break rooms.
• Assist with educational programs and guest relations.
• Assist with animal care and feeding.
• Order butterflies from various vendors. Prepare purchase orders and correspondence and permits needed for governmental agencies. Arrange for the shipment of all butterflies. Unpack and receive butterfly shipments ensuring invoices are correct. Assess condition of each specimen as it is unpacked. Glue pupae to exhibitry and place in emergence exhibit.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• One-year previous experience handling or keeping exotic animals preferred.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. A college degree in Entomology or related field preferred.
• Must be comfortable speaking in front on large crowds.
• Must be articulate and able to clearly speak, read, and write in English.
• Must be willing to listen and follow both written and verbal instructions.
• Must be willing and able to work 40 hours a week, both indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
• Must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Must possess the mental and physical capacities necessary to perform primary responsibilities.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
