A Delivery Driver is very important and basic part of the overall sales process of the delivery team and is expected to participate in selling of displays, placement of new products, selling the retailer, manager or back doorman, on accepting the full order, as well as attempting to sell any extra beer for incremental sales. One of the main objectives is to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with each of his accounts, thus allowing him to deliver product to all his accounts in a timely manner. This position can fall under the DOT regulations and therefore must comply with all requirements. All operations must follow company’s safety guidelines. Employee must be a team player and share responsibilities with the team. Employee must communicate and work with other members of the team to ensure customer satisfaction and increase sales. Employees will cooperate with other employees, supervisors and management and perform other duties as requested by supervisor or manager.

  • Must possess a clean and clear driving record and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Must maintain insurability to operate a company vehicle.
  • Be licensed by T.A.B.C. to sell alcoholic beverages.
  • Prior beverage experience is preferred.
  • Must wear safety shoes

Morning Duties

  • Must perform morning vehicle checklist.
  • Report any discrepancies to Driver Dispatcher before leaving warehouse.
  • Must perform company stretching program.

Bulk Delivery

  • Must determine and maintain the proper scheduling of his route to insure timely delivery.
  • Will typically drive a 26,001 pound truck to account
  • May be required to run an AM and PM route on the same day
  • Take shrink wrap off pallets and down stack product so customer can count.
  • Must pay attention to the SPN labels on all orders and the verification sticker on an order
  • Sort pallet by putting each product in front of the pallet to coincide with the load sheet
  • Contact sales rep with issues
  • Take back product that does not scan to the warehouse
  • Complete forms for any product taken back to the warehouse (scanning or damage)
  • Handle credit issues and call office manager to be able to keep product in the store
  • Have handhelds ready for printing invoices
  • Restack product onto pallets at bulk accounts
  • Shrink wrap pallets at accounts
  • Prep for PM routes and consolidate routes for each stop.
  • Follow all safety guidelines while loading or unloading.
  • Separate hot shot loads on truck to make sure delivery is completed
  • Place products on the sales floor if necessary
  • Use a manual pallet jack for delivery of load
  • Pay attention to your customer’s needs and suggestions.
  • Thank the customer.
  • Know each customer by name.
  • Unload product from truck and place in account as required for customer receiving.
  • Remove trash and empty boxes as required by account.

PM Delivery

  • Verify and load product into the van
  • Organize products by accounts for ease of delivery
  • Will typically use a van for delivery to accounts
  • Use a dolly for delivery of product into accounts
  • Verify each cases for the at the account
  • Report any discrepancies to salesman or warehouse.
  • Have hand helds ready for printing invoices
  • Notify sales rep for out of stocks or overages
  • Place products on the shelf if necessary
  • Get money from the account
  • Perform closing paperwork for each account and checkout at night.
  • Assist salesman with displays
  • Go through the product and complete forms for refused or mis-pulled products
  • Pay attention to your customer’s needs and suggestions.
  • Thank the customer.
  • Know each customer by name.
  • Remove trash and empty boxes as required by account

Package Dates

  • Know the shelf life of each of our brands.
  • Know how to read code dates on each of our packages.
  • Know the vintages of wine.

Product Rotation And Delivery

  • Maintain good rotation procedures on your truck as well as displays.
  • Check code-dates and rotate product accordingly during every service call.
  • Determine close dated products and arrange for proper movement of product in conjunction with team leader and merchandiser.
  • Report any product complaint to your supervisor as it occurs.

End-of-Day

  • Responsible for all products brought back & ensure that it is not damaged.
  • Report any vehicle damages that may have occurred during the workday.
  • Verify what product was brought back and state the name of the account, and the reason for bringing the product back.
  • Responsible for settlements and deposits at the end of day.
  • Ensure that all reports are in order and correct.
  • Ensure handheld is left for next day according to procedure.
  • Ensure vehicle is clean and orderly for next day use.

  • Keep your supervisor and management aware of all competitive activities and correct at account whenever possible.
  • Keep good clean attitude towards working environment and customer satisfaction

Physical Demands

Frequent tasks (75%-100% of the day that could last from 6-10 hours depending on the number of cases sold and delivered for that day)

  • Designated accounts for the route may require merchandising to increase sales space.
  • This consists of standing, sitting, kneeling, squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, lifting, twisting, stair climbing, reaching/overhead reaching, and shoulder flexion/rotation/abduction/extension.
  • Cases vary in weight from 10-75lbs.
  • Ability to operate a two or four wheeled hand-truck.
  • Ability to operate a manual/powered pallet jack or lift product.
  • Maintain merchandising standards while rotating products each time in designated accounts
  • This consists of standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Employees must perform pivoting on one foot (with and without product) and negotiate steps with functional balance in both static and dynamic tasks. We administer functionally directed balance tests such as the unipedal stance for 15 seconds as one aspect of appropriate balance.
  • Employees must maintain balance while moving product as fast as possible and while reaching as far as possible.

Moderately frequent tasks (05 – 25%% of the day that could last from 6-10 hours depending on the number of cases sold and delivered for that day.

  • Driver Salesman helps build displays with the team.
  • A display could have as little as 5 cases or as much as 80+ cases
  • This consists of walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching/overhead reaching
  • To help unload cases of beer at accounts designated for the route for a specific day.

Safety Of Operations

  • Employee’s work directly affects the safety of operation of motor vehicles on public highways in transportation in interstate or foreign commerce within the meaning of the federal Motor Carrier Act.
  • Accordingly, employee will and may be required, when necessary:
  • to load or assist in the loading of company motor vehicles so that they may be safely operated upon the public highways while exercising judgment and discretion in planning and building a balanced load or in placing, distributing or securing the pieces of freight in such a manner that the safe operation of the motor vehicles in interstate commerce or foreign commerce is not jeopardized;
  • to drive the vehicle safely and in compliance with all laws, rules and regulations, with special care given to railroad crossings, when entering traffic and when driving in reverse;
  • to drive company vehicles in order to transport goods involved in interstate commerce;
  • to act as assistant or relief drivers of company vehicles;
  • to place flags, flares and fuses as required by all applicable safety regulations in case of a vehicle break down or accident;
  • to go for assistance and/or protects the vehicle in case of a break down;
  • to change tires or make minor repairs and putt on or remove chains; and
  • Perform daily Department of Transportation checklist inspections.
  • Training Requirements
  • At the discretion of management, the employee may be asked to undergo periodic safety training.
