The Opportunity
We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to help drive development of the next generation of laser-based analytical instrumentation capable of high precision, high accuracy molecular analysis of complex gas mixtures. The Backend Software Engineer will be responsible for helping to architect and develop the next generation analytics compute infrastructure. We are looking for an experienced backend software engineer, who has helped push forward compute solutions that scale from single node to HPC clusters. Experience handling data generated by scientific instrumentation is a plus.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $135,000 - $145,000. Your base salary range and title will be determined based on the location, experience, qualification, skills, knowledge, level, and pay of employees in similar positions.

Qualifications
The Backend Software Engineer will
- Implement new technologies and solutions for automating data collection and analysis for dynamic pipelines as well as static scheduled batch jobs.
- Work closely with the rest of the analytics team to determine the best architectural and technological choices for the problems we face.
- Improve existing code bases, documentation, and testing.
B.S., M.S. preferred in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or related field.
Requirements
- 2+ years of modern python programming required.
- Experience with HPC frameworks like Ray, Dask, or SLURM required.
- 2+ years of REST application development using frameworks like FastAPI, Django, or Flask required.
- 2+ years of SQL and NoSQL database experience required.
- Experience with pipeline and dag orchestrators like airflow, luigi, dagster, or prefect
- Independently Motivated / Technical Leader.
- Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to a diverse range of audiences (peers, staff, management, collaborators, etc.) and skill levels (novice to expert).
- Version control with git and GitHub
- CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or other.
- Experience with Numpy, Scipy, sklearn, pandas and jupyter.
- Experience in the deployment of machine learning techniques to physical systems.
- Ability to manage, process, and visualize large amounts (terabyte scale) of scientific data quickly.
- Experience with and knowledge of pydata technologies like Numpy, pandas, sklearn, Scipy.
Experience with any of the technologies we are currently using is highly desirable:
