About Midlands Regional Center

Midlands Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Columbia, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Under the direct supervision of the Administrative Officer of the Day performs administrative, secretarial and clerical duties. Record information on all matters pertaining to Midlands Center operations. Serve as primary representative for the welcoming of visitors, dispensing of information and telecommunications.

Performs the duties of Information/Communications Specialist during one of three daily shifts.

Handles telecommunications for the OD/Information section, as well as routes incoming calls to appropriate areas.

Utilizes a communications transmitter to transmit and receive information necessary. Use emergency communication system as needed.

Maintains the filing system compiled of various types of information for multiple purposes (resident identification, family/social contact, office operations, etc.).

Composes documents of various data and conducts research for reports as directed by an

Administrative Officer of the Day or the Chief Administrative Officer.

Contacts the Supervisor of the charge person for each residence at the beginning of shift, to verify the number of Human Services Assistants on duty, as well as the residential census.

Ensures the appropriate adjustments are made as needed to meet Title XIX standards and document accordingly.

Operates and monitors Energy Management and Fire Monitoring systems, and informs the residences, maintenance and other necessary personnel whenever a discrepancy is noted.

Performs related duties as required by circumstance or as directed by the Administrative Officer.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: There are no minimum training and experience requirements for this class.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: High School Diploma with advanced administrative skills to include advance typing and knowledge of computer software. Must have the ability to operate a base station for two way radios.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicant must have extensive knowledge of group activities, program policies and procedures. Must have considerable knowledge of personnel management.

Immunization: If this position requires the applicant to work directly with DDSN consumers, a (2) step PPD testing or QuantiFERON TB Gold testing must be completed prior to beginning employment. All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DDSN employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
