Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD - #309587

Date: 5 hours ago
City: College Station, TX
Salary:
$50
per hour
Contract type: Full time
- $100,000/year W2 salary paid weekly, with health, dental, and vision benefits starting day one
- On-site role at an Alpha K-8 campus located in Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston (Central, South, or The Woodlands), TX; Park City, UT (Salt Lake City area)—relocation assistance available
The most meaningful support you can offer a student who reached 99% of their goal is to refuse to accept it as finished. If that principle feels uncomfortable, this role is not for you. If it energizes you—because maintaining high standards is how you demonstrate your belief in a student's potential—read on.
Alpha students engage with their academic learning through AI-powered applications. No traditional lectures. No textbooks. Half of your day is spent facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops covering topics like public speaking, focus, and constructive feedback exchange. The remaining half involves working with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their progress via Coachbot analytics, and driving each one toward 100% completion of their weekly app targets. You will not follow a rigid script—workshops provide a foundation, but top performers in this role customize them and create new sessions when needs arise.
Success each quarter means every student in your cohort completes their weekly app goals, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90%+ report that they love you. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the job has not been fulfilled. In your first year, you will internalize the operational playbook; once you demonstrate your ability to uphold standards, advancement to Lead Guide becomes possible, where you mentor new hires while continuing direct student engagement.
If you prefer traditional teaching methods, expect curriculum to be handed to you, or view warmth and rigor as opposing forces, this role will not suit you. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you refused to let students give up, or performing for young audiences, the final interview stage is a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect is what excites you most, submit your application today.
What You Will Be Doing
- Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, focus, feedback, and other foundational competencies, customizing the playbook and creating new sessions when you identify unmet needs
- Conducting daily individual and small-group motivation sessions that drive every student to 100% of their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your personal relationship with each student to overcome resistance
- Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-based assessment) for each life skill and coaching students who do not pass until they achieve mastery
- Tailoring your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to 8th graders needing candid conversation and accountability
- Serving as the adult who maintains high expectations and the adult students want to confide in; warmth grants you the credibility to challenge, and challenging demonstrates your confidence in their capability
- Delivering whiteboard lectures; academic instruction is embedded in the apps, not your direct teaching
- Creating curriculum from the ground up; you animate an established playbook with energy and narrative skill
- Passively monitoring students at computers; motivation in this context is active, individualized, and persistent
- Reducing a weekly target to enable a student to meet it; when a student falls behind, the solution involves supporting the student, not adjusting the goal
- Evaluating homework, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent communications; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks do not exist in this model
Drive every student in your K-8 cohort to complete their weekly learning targets, achieve mastery in each life skill, and finish the year reporting that they loved you.
Basic Requirements
- Able to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT—relocation assistance available
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership)
- A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the objective, your actions, and the result
- Openness to allowing AI to manage instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills coaching
- Regular use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
- Legal authorization to work in the US without visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto campus)
- Background in youth sports coaching, debate, camp leadership, theater, or extracurricular programs where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward measurable outcomes
- Personal track record of significant achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), such that maintaining rigorous standards for others is a consistent trait, not an adopted stance
- Narrative ability and stage presence capable of engaging a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voice
- Demonstrated success converting disengaged or resistant students into active, willing participants
