The College of Health is seeking applications for a Communications Director. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the internal and external communications of the college, with the goal of increasing the college’s visibility and credibility.

The Communications Director will develop, implement, and manage the COH communications structure. The position will be responsible for marketing and external communications, student recruitment, public/media relations, and internal communications. The communications director will be a member of the COH Leadership Team and work closely with college leadership, faculty, and staff as well as other internal UAA entities. As directed, the incumbent will work with external stakeholders, UA statewide, UAF and UAS. The incumbent will also supervise the COH student recruitment manager and COH communications team members.

Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to develop compelling content across a variety of media and styles. Exceptional organization and time management skills, with a strong orientation to detail and the ability to balance several high-level priorities at once. Strong ability to analyze and solve complex problems in a collaborative environment. An understanding of health-related academic programs and their contributions to state needs. An understanding of organizational image and reputation management. Familiarity with strategies, procedures and best practices in student recruitment. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to plan, manage and evaluate communications, marketing/advertising and public relations campaigns. A highly developed service orientation. Ability to effectively manage a wide range of communications channels, including websites and social media. Understanding of Alaska’s statewide media landscape.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field and five years of progressively responsible communications experience related to the program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska, Goose Lake campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, starting at Grade 81, based on education and experience.
