The Communications Manager serves as the primary media liaison, cultivating and maintaining relationships with local, industry, regional, and national press (print, broadcast, and online). This role is responsible for proactively pitching stories, writing and distributing press releases, managing media inquiries, and archiving coverage. The Communications Manager also contributes to the annual marketing plan through PR reporting, website updates, advertorial creation, and participation in social media and community initiatives, while managing internal communications projects and serving as the 24/7 on-call media contact.
Responsible for strategic public and internal communications, with the primary objective of securing positive media coverage to promote company events, promotions, achievements, and other key messages as planned and directed.
JOB DUTIES
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential. Must possess the ability to confidently represent the company and project its desired image on camera. Strong collaboration skills are required to work effectively with the Management team. Proficiency in word processing, digital camera operation, and basic office equipment is necessary. Demonstrated photography skills and exceptional organizational abilities are critical for success in this role.

JOB DUTIES
- Lead copy writer, proofreads content for accuracy and adherence to brand
- Serves as the primary media contact for all inquiries.
- Develops and distributes targeted media alerts based on editorial calendars.
- Creates and disseminates press releases for company-sponsored events and activities to target media.
- Proactively pitches stories aligned with editorial calendars to secure media coverage for company and on-property events; monitors media for accuracy and ensures timely updates to online platforms.
- Manages all aspects of property awards, including nominations, voting periods, notifications, marketing materials, and media alerts.
- Manages participation in external "best of" polls, including ballot distribution.
- Provides regular property updates and promotional information to regional tourism partners.
- Coordinates media trips for travel writers to the property.
- Keeps internal team informed about upcoming community events involving the company.
- Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with all media contacts through regular professional engagement.
- Provides on-site support and escorts for all press and media visits.
- Plans and executes in-house community and public relations events and activities; attends relevant external events.
- Coordinates promotions and interviews for property and community events.
- Develops quarterly and annual PR reports and contributes to the annual marketing plan.
- Leads and manages internal communications projects.
- Ensures on-hold messages are current and provides copywriting assistance to marketing, advertising, and sales teams.
- Remains on-call 24/7 to address media inquiries.
- Coordinates photo and video shoots with media partners to showcase property amenities.
- Captures publicity photographs as needed.
- BA in journalism or equivalent
- 2-5 years in a related position, casino experience helpful but not required.
