Position Summary

Level One: Inspects forged bars, rings and/or rough machined parts, to ensure conformance to specifications by assisting the Chief Inspector and performing the following duties under little supervision and training.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reads blueprints or engineering specifications to obtain product information such as specified material, surface finish, and dimensions.
  • Compares surface finish of workpiece to finish on set of standard blocks making fingertip touch comparison to ensure production of specified surface finish.
  • Measures dimensions such as length, height, and distance, between reference points to ensure product meets
  • Locates reference point on part and measures dimensions such as angle, arc, and
  • Reports findings to Inspection Supervisor and, if necessary, write Inspection Deviation Report (IDR) if parts are not in conformance.
  • Sets up and tries out inspection equipment to ensure
  • Substitutes known values such as dimensions from blueprints into standard formulas and solves for unknown quantities to determine dimensions not specified in blueprints.
  • Sets up portable CMM and related
  • Uses forklifts and cranes to move heavy

Required Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret multiple instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Experience & Education

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or five years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
