Summary
SUMMARY:
The Director of Patient Access for Northwest Hospital plans, organizes and directs the implementation of the hospital's admitting/registration policies; executes new programs/procedures to improve services, operations, and efficiency; establishes annual department goals and provides direction regarding the department priorities and standards. Collaborates with other departments to ensure that Admitting team is meeting the department's service expectations and information requests.

SUMMARY:
The Director of Patient Access for Northwest Hospital plans, organizes and directs the implementation of the hospital's admitting/registration policies; executes new programs/procedures to improve services, operations, and efficiency; establishes annual department goals and provides direction regarding the department priorities and standards. Collaborates with other departments to ensure that Admitting team is meeting the department's service expectations and information requests.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing the department's annual budget. Prepares operating budget and makes recommendations for capital expenditures in consultation with VP of Revenue Cycle. Analyzes and communicates monthly budget variances to VP. Develops corrective action plans to address negative variances. Monitors overtime and scheduling within budget parameters.
- Directs department human resource activity within established productivity guidelines, requirements and budget parameters. Ensures mandatory competencies are completed. Reviews and monitors staff work performance with Admitting Manager and Outpatient Registration Manager. Interviews and selects staff. Develops staff scheduling patterns and assignments. Ensures adequate admitting/registration/financial counseling coverage is in place to match departmental hours of operations and reduce financial risk to its lowest possible level.
- Develops comprehensive training program for all registration areas. Facilitates training and development efforts to including refresh training. Ensures staff is adequately and appropriately trained on all facets of the registration process. Monitors work quality with management staff and provides feedback as necessary. Serves as a resource to other department managers within the facility who have staff performing Part A registrations.
- Recommends and provides appropriate training and support for this staff.
- Responsible for identifying ongoing opportunities to improve the patient experience associated with the registration process. Collaborates with clinical and executive staff to continually improve the patient experience. Implements timely and appropriate actions to improve Press Ganey patient satisfaction scores. Responds to patient, visitor, and physician suggestions, concerns and complaints. Continually reviews processes and identifies patient ease of use opportunities (i. e. pre-registration).
- Works closely with Patient Accounting Management Team to identify areas directly impacting bad debt, denials and cash flow. Meets routinely with Patient Accounting Team to address registration data quality issues and develops corrective action plans with staff. Tracks, reports and appropriately addresses registration-related denials including additional training and/or disciplinary action. Ensures the department is meeting all regulatory requirements including HIPAA compliant. Identifies and communicates payor changes and trends with appropriate parties.
- Develops, implements and administers departmental policies and procedures, under direction of the SVP and Chief Revenue Officer. Establishes quality and productivity measures for department. Ensures department policies/procedures exist and are practiced consistently.
- Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience.
