The Director of Sales for Harbor's Central CA region is responsible for assembling and directing the regional sales teams to meet the company’s sales and market strategy inclusive of the Bay Area/Central CA to Bakersfield. The Director of Sales helps drive company revenue and leads the sales team efforts to meet those goals. The Director is required to have excellent skills in leadership and relationship building with most of the effort consisting of sales leadership and customer development. This position requires a winning attitude and an impactful leader who can drive results. The Director will work closely with operations and administration to ensure that company standards and accuracy are met. Direct reports are the Regional Sales Managers and other key sales positions. Work requires travel, with roughly 20% overnight. (1 day a week on average) The average week would likely be 1-2 days in the office and 3-4 days with field personnel and customers. *** This position is not offering relocation outside the Inland East Bay/Central California area.

Compensation: $125k - 175k total comp range inclusive of generous base + bonus/incentives

  • Consistently met or exceeded company targets for gross profit and overall sales performance.
  • Secure new independent retail partnerships and expanded business with regional chain accounts.
  • Delivered strong gross profit results on a per-delivery basis through strategic planning and execution.
  • Build and develop a high-performing sales team by maximizing individual strengths and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated measurable success in team growth, performance enhancement and achievement of key objectives.
  • Successfully meet annual goals and strategic initiatives set by the Vice President of Sales and the President of HW.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with VP of Sales to plan company revenue / margin forecasts and achieve sales ops objectives.
  • Develop sales team strategy that assures attainment of company sales and profitability goals.
  • Improve same store sales business while securing new customers.
  • Set targets for new regional chain account acquisition and implement strategy to secure the business.
  • Call on existing regional chain / key customers, meeting objectives in retention and further account development.
  • Communicate and monitor team for alignment with company values.
  • Develop and coach a winning sales team capable of exceeding assigned customer development and sales targets.
  • Monitor and evaluate financial performance of region, seek out opportunities for improvement.
  • Implement clear concise performance measures for each employee and conduct regular evaluations, uphold accountability.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere in which employees willingly produce at a high level.
  • Plan for and provide opportunities for employee advancement and development.
  • Inspire sales team to maintain a positive attitude and adapt to market changes.
  • Ensure all regional sales meetings are impactful and meaningful.
  • Hire, coach, train Regional Sales Managers into top performing leaders.
  • Oversee field merchandising efforts to ensure that product sets meet the company’s desired Marketing objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Strong professional selling skills and experience in training and coaching professional sales staff.
  • Strong knowledge of western Washington demonstrated by sales and business achievement/acumen within the immediate region.
  • Proven sales leadership with past customer and team development success documented.
  • Must be likeable, with an ability to quickly build rapport with team members and customers.
  • Strong ability to lead change. As region and company grows, the Director of Sales must be willing to make changes and scale the organization accordingly.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Must have strong ability to read and interpret financial data and reporting metrics.
  • Professional and impactful communication and interpersonal skills. Must have effective presentation skills.
  • Must possess strong decision-making skills.
  • Ability to recruit and identify industry talent to help build team.
  • Proven ability to cope with conflict, stress, and crisis situations.
  • Effective use of technology including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and all mobile and handheld technology.
  • Work requires travel, with roughly 20% overnight. (1 day a week on average) The average week would likely be 1-2 days in the office and 3-4 days with field personnel and customers. Will be required to attend meetings periodically in Lacey, WA headquarters.

Education and Experience: Please note this is the minimum needed.

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Communications or Psychology or related.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a high level field sales management position
  • 5-7 years’ experience in strategic planning and execution
  • Must be willing to show proven results from past employment opportunities

License and Certifications: Must maintain current Driver’s License in good standing.

Final candidates will be required to pass a drug, criminal background check and MVR check for insurance purposes while on the road for Harbor even though a company vehicle may be used for this position.
