The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management (SIM) is responsible for maintaining the city's 12,760 miles of sidewalks and approximately 162,000 pedestrian ramps. SIM is tasked with sustaining a comprehensive inspection, pedestrian ramp and sidewalk program that ensures accessibility of pedestrian ramps, streets, and sidewalks.
The Office of Special Events oversees the planning and day-of coordination for all DOT-related aspects of public events, parades, and street fairs including world-renowned events like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the NYC Marathon, the Times Square New Year’s Eve Celebration, Five Borough Bike Tour, and Summer Streets.
The Office of Special Events is seeking to hire a Director of Operations to join a fast-paced, collaborative, innovative team within SIM. The selected candidate will oversee the operations of all citywide events that fall within DOT’s jurisdiction. Events range from political, entertainment, recreational/organized sports, ceremonials/memorials, and street fairs (approximately 600+ events annually). Will serve as the operations liaison on behalf of DOT with the Mayor’s Office, NYPD Ops, Traffic, Counterterrorism, FDNY, Parks, OEM, MTA, FBI, Secret Service, Sanitation, and other city, state, and federal agencies to ensure the integrity of NYC property as it relates to event logistics and planning; S/he will attend interagency meetings to ensure event parameters are within City rules and regulations and local laws; serve as operational lead with oversight on the coordination of annual and intermittent events citywide taking place on NYC streets, sidewalks, highways, bridges, DOT property, including the Staten Island Ferry; direct the resolution of extraordinary planning problems; serve as operation lead on the expanded Summer Streets and Earth Day events citywide working closely with DOT operational units to coordinate repairs, and resources required for event operations; Oversee and ensure timely repairs or modification of city and state property to ensure the safety of the public before, during and after events. Additionally, the candidate will be required to supervise, train and evaluate administrative and field operations keeping the unit aware of policies and procedures as they are updated; assist the Assistant Commissioner with special and related assignments.

Minimum Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidate possessing the following: Prior event planning/project management experience (large scale events) A willingness and ability to support the organization's mission statement regarding safety and security of the public Strong analytical skills Ability to multi-task and be able to work independently.

Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and five years of full-time experience, with a public or private organization, in inspection, maintenance, construction or engineering work related to the work of a large scale highway system; at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising a staff engaged in performing the above type of work; or
- A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License and 18 months of supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive experience in civil engineering work related to highway construction or maintenance; or
- A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of the experience described in "1" above; at least 18 months of supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive experience as described in "1" above; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above and at least 18 months of supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive experience as described in "1" above.
