Openings are available for both day and night shifts at our Portsmouth, VA locations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Operate manual and CNC machining tools, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and band saws
- Fabricate and shape metal parts, including machine components and tools
- Select, secure, and remove fixtures, cutting tools, and materials safely and efficiently
- Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to perform machining tasks
- Use measuring instruments to ensure parts meet strict tolerances
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on equipment
- Track parts and projects using a job tracking system
- Work in a safe and responsible manner while maintaining a clean and organized work area
- Be available for overtime, including evenings and weekends, as needed
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow
- Required Skills:
- Machine setup experience (loading/unloading parts)
- Ability to run machines independently and perform quality checks on finished parts
- Understanding of feeds, speeds, and cutting tool applications
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and engineering drawings
- Experience with MasterCam (not required for manual machinists)
- Experience operating lathes, grinders, boring mills, planers, and portable tools
- Familiarity with machining processes such as turning, drilling, tapping, boring, honing, and polishing
- Experience with large-part machining (e.g., ship propeller shafts, ship steering gear)
- Background in on-site/in-place machining is a plus
- Forklift and crane operation experience preferred
- High school diploma or GED required
- 3 to 5 years of CNC machining experience preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Experience with Fanuc, Mazatrol, Okuma, and DMG/Mori CNC controls
- Ability to maintain 0.001” tolerances
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience setting up jobs on vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers and CNC turning centers
- Willingness to work at multiple Portsmouth locations as needed
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new processes quickly
- Proficiency in using measuring tools and performing calculations (fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions)
- Interest in engineering and mechanical systems
- Ability to move materials using an overhead crane
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs when necessary
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, and climbing ladders/stairs
- Vision requirements include close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
- Some computer work for tracking and administrative tasks
- Ability to move products with an overhead crane
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs when required
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach overhead, stoop, crouch, kneel, climb ladders, and use stairs
- Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Time spent using a computer for tracking and administrative tasks
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and/or background check
