The Facility Manager organizes, administers, and leads a comprehensive program of building maintenance and custodial services that provide and maintain in an efficient and economical manner the facilities, grounds, equipment, and furnishings of the district, so that all students, staff, and the community are assured of clean, safe, attractive, and healthy places in which to learn and work. This person will:

  • Oversee the physical buildings of both high school campuses
  • Manage facilities and janitorial services
  • Ensure campus safety
  • Comply with all Roxbury Prep High School policies, procedures, and quality standards as well as safety and environmental regulations
  • Ensure facilities are in good repair and provide a safe environment
  • Maintain effective safety program for all members of facilities; complete all safety checks on equipment systems
  • Coordinate and schedule all maintenance, cleaning requests, and work orders
  • Supervise and train custodial, cleaning, and maintenance team; evaluate workloads and reassign job functions for more efficient operation
  • Ensure compliance with government health and safety standards; keep records of all permits, licenses, and citations
  • Oversee all third-party vendors, i.e., landscaping, pest control, and alarm system, boiler repairs
  • Manage the fire, safety, and security systems
  • Respond quickly to emergency problems and be on-call 24/7 to meet with vendors, repairmen or suppliers, when necessary
  • Solicit, review, and negotiate bids for repairs and projects
  • Maintain inventory of tools and supplies for custodial, maintenance, and emergency preparedness
  • Work with the Director of Operations in the management of construction, renovation, and maintenance operations and projects
  • Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance duties related to the school
  • Evaluate facilities staff performance
  • Maintain owner manuals/information, asset lists, schedules, and maintenance records
  • Coordinate move/relocation with IT and other related parties, as required
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Operations


  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and efficiently complete all activities.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to interact/communicate with all types of members of the community including teachers, administrators, board members, parents, and students.
  • Self-starter, ability to set and meet goals, and a desire to excel.
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Main the ability to satisfy all physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 pounds; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; reaching above shoulder level; fine finger dexterity.
  • Ability to withstand a variety of indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.

Compensation for this position: The starting pay will depend on various factors that may include but are not limited to professional experience, education, training, certifications, tenure with Uncommon Schools, and work location.  Because we value staff tenure in each role, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
