We are seeking a talented data engineer to design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and infrastructure for hockey-related datasets. The ideal candidate will have expertise in data engineering, cloud technologies, and a keen interest in hockey. This role will focus on creating scalable systems to collect, process, and deliver high-quality data to support analytics, visualizations, and strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable, automated data pipelines to ingest, clean, and transform data from diverse sources (e.g., APIs, real-time game feeds, historical datasets).
  • Ensure data quality and consistency through validation, error handling, and monitoring processes.
  • Build and maintain cloud-based data storage solutions (e.g., data lakes, databases) using platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
  • Manage and optimize databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) to support real-time and batch processing of data.
  • Collaborate with team members in the analytics department to integrate data pipelines with analytical tools, machine learning models, and front-end applications.
  • Develop APIs and data services to enable seamless access to data for internal usage.
  • Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance data processing speed, scalability, and accessibility.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data systems to ensure high availability and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in data engineering, including building and maintaining data pipelines.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala for data processing.
  • Strong experience with SQL and relational/non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and tools like Airflow, Kafka, or Spark.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for sports and understanding of sports metrics across multiple disciplines (e.g., hockey, soccer, basketball, baseball).
  • Experience with data visualization or BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker) for prototyping or validation.
