Position Supervision
This position reports to the Human Resources Director. This position does not supervise others.
Job Description
The HR & Payroll Coordinator/Specialist provides support to Sponsors’ staff for benefits, payroll, and general HR functions. This position assists the HR Director with managing processes and tasks related to recruitment, onboarding, benefits, employee engagement, recordkeeping, and reporting. This position is also responsible for full cycle Payroll processing including time reporting management, associated benefit deductions and accruals, voluntary and involuntary pay adjustments, and timely processing and reporting. As a first point of contact for employees, the HR & Payroll Coordinator/Specialist must be responsive while managing other priorities in this role that requires diverse skills and high staff contact.
Responsibilities
Skills and Knowledge:
Successful candidates for this position who are on parole or probation must have completed at least 1 year of supervision, have no violations of parole or probation in the past 9 months, and not be in a diversion program (e.g., SB416, Treatment Court, DUII Diversion, Restorative Justice).

Responsibilities
- Facilitate recruiting and onboarding of new employees
- Manage enrollment of employee benefits and help employees access benefit services
- Coordinate employee engagement and relations programs
- Timecard, time off accruals & payroll management
- Administrative support for Human Resources operations
- Monitor and report compliance with regulatory and internal procedures
- Employee engagement program management
- Assist with training & development for targeted employee audiences
- Additional HR Department Support
Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality standards
- Ability to think critically and respond or redirect decisively to sensitive situations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Two years of experience in HR, finance, or related field working with highly confidential information.
- At least one year of experience working with human resource management or financial data software is required; experience with Paylocity is preferred.
- Post-secondary coursework in HR, business, or organizational development preferred.
- One year of experience working for a non-profit, social service organization. Preference for experience working with employees and/or participants in a post-incarceration reentry program.
- Two years of experience in Human Resources.
- At least one year of experience with benefits management, or Payroll.
- SHRM, HRCI, or related professional organization certification may substitute for 1 year of experience.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally
- This position typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties.
- May encounter frequent interruptions throughout the workday
- Will occasionally travel to other local venues and organization sites for meetings and events
