General Description
Children’s Health Andrews Institute (CHAI) is recruiting for a Human Movement Scientist (Research-focus) to join its Sports Science and Research Laboratory. The Human Movement Scientist will be responsible for contributing to the ongoing research efforts of the Sports Science and Research Laboratory (SSRL) and developing an agenda that is consistent with the mission of CHAI.
CHAI is a comprehensive orthopedic and sports medicine facility consisting of orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, concussion, sports rehabilitation performance, and sports science. As a fully integrated medical center our services provide a continuum of care from initial evaluation to return to performance with collaborative strategies across our different departments including our partnership with EXOS and external organizations.
The SSRL contributes to the overall mission of Children’s Health- “Make Life Better for Children through three pillars of effort- research (ACL, concussion, female youth athlete, patellar instability, upper extremity), sports science (youth to professional athletes), and return to performance (ACL, patellar instability, upper extremity).

Specific Responsibilities
- Contribute to currently active research efforts (data collection, processing, analysis, dissemination)
- Create an interdisciplinary research agenda that reflects the patient or athlete populations of CHAI
- Reinforce collection, methods, and consistency (i.e., validity and reliability) across research projects
- Engage in organizational problem-solving effort
- Present research findings at professional conferences
- Publish manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals
- Collaborate with sports rehabilitation, sports performance, and sports science to develop clinically-relevant strategies for their patients and athletes based on study findings
- Collaborate with orthopaedic surgery, sports rehabilitation, sports performance, and sports science to develop and implement new projects
- Mentor and supervise interns, trainees, and junior support staff
- Present research findings at professional conferences
- Publish manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals
The candidate will have a history of the following preferred:
- Experience working with injured and healthy athletes in clinical or sport environment
- Experience with human subjects research
- Experience writing abstracts, manuscripts, grants
- Experience with motion analysis
- Experience conducting longitudinal testing
- Experience with database management
- Experience with programming (R, MATLAB, Python)
- Experience with advanced statistical analyses
Work Experience
- At least one year of professional research experience related to orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine, concussion, rehabilitation, performance, or sports science preferred.
- Graduate degree in physical therapy, athletic training, exercise physiology, biomechanics, or sports science required.
