Position Summary

The Human Resources Recruitment/Generalist will be responsible for all aspects of assigned recruiting and onboarding for the Museum. Under guidance from senior leadership, the person in this role may also carry out responsibilities in other HR functional areas including: employee relations, staff communications, HRIS support, compliance, special projects and HR/IDEA-related events promoting a positive, productive and welcoming environment for staff and guests.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

Recruitment (Time allotment – approx. 50%)

  • Conduct full cycle recruitment effort for all assigned full time, part time, and temporary positions including interns and fellows
  • Source and attract talent through various channels, including job boards, social media, referrals, and networking events.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers on their recruitment needs and develop strategies; from sourcing to screening candidates to final selection.
  • Provide regular staffing and hiring updates and prepare reports as needed

New Hire Onboarding (Time allotment – approx. 20%)

  • In collaboration onboarding team, support the end-to-end new hire onboarding process including but not limited to: draft offer letters, process background checks and professional references, order fit for duty testing, coordinate with security for ID badges, and participate in new hire orientation sessions.
  • Serve as one of the primary points of contact for new hires, providing support and answering any questions they may have prior to and during the onboarding process
  • Perform data entry and maintenance of employee information in the HRIS system (UKG)

Administration, Diversity, and Operational Support (Time allotment – approx. 20%)

  • Assists with a variety of administration task as needed; examples include records management, job postings, scheduling, unemployment administration, policy updates, staff publicity and communications, coordinating HR/IDEA events.

Employee Relations (Time allotment – approx. 10%)

  • As assigned, may address and resolve employee relations matters including meeting with employees/managers, handling the investigation process and recommending resolutions
  • Provide administrative and other support for HR/IDEA-related projects, events and initiatives as needed

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred OR an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable and demonstrable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a full-service HR environment; evidence of progressive HR capacity
  • Computer skills to include Excel, Word, Outlook, and HRIS systems (UKG strongly preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of HR practices (the good ones) and employment laws. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to research and apply a broad range of HR strategies and practices. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with staff at all levels. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills combined with the ability to prioritize. 
  • Priority – must have demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. 
  • Curious approach to work combined with positive attitude (also known as “can do” spirit), with a strong customer service mindset and the ability to build positive relationships within your entire work world. 
  • Adept at problem-solving and conflict resolution. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment. 
  • Authentically and naturally inclined toward fostering and promoting inclusivity, belonging, and building a welcome environment for all.
  • Comfortable asking questions as a growth mindset
