Summary

Description

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will assist the Engineering Department in aspects of design, development, and validation of automated car wash systems. This individual helps specify materials & components, assists in building & testing prototype systems, and supports the preparation of product & process documentation.

Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Mechanical Design (30%): Assist in designing parts, assemblies, and manufactured sheet metal components to help bring products from concept to prototype, testing, and launch.
  • Engineering Analysis (20%): Help evaluate or generate technical specifications, reliability, and costing of various equipment including pumps, motors, levers, lights, hardware, and assorted integrated electrical components.
  • Manufacturing (20%): Support the manufacturing processes, ensuring that parts and assemblies are produced according to specifications and quality standards. Help troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues as they arise.
  • Prototyping (10%): Plan and carry out assembly of prototype parts and systems for validation.
  • Documentation (10%): Assist in documenting engineering changes, CAD files, and test reports.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration (10%): Provide support to Production and Service to help resolve issues on existing equipment. Work closely with other engineers and departments to bring new solutions to market.
  • Multi-Project Support: Help drive multiple simultaneous projects, both large and small.

Requirements

Experience and Education Competencies

Technical Competence Requirements

  • Basic proficiency in solid modeling techniques and programs (Solid Edge preferred).
  • Basic understanding of pumps, motors, and fabricated component processes.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design of complex parts, assemblies, and products.
  • Exposure to designing and prototyping electromechanical systems.
  • Basic knowledge of common analytical methods including FEA and FMEA.
  • Strong mathematical skills and ability to work with technical instructions, diagrams, and equations.
  • Attention to detail in tracking design files, solid models, BOMs, and change histories.
  • Ability to assist in writing professional, technical, and end user documentation.
  • Occasional travel (0-10%) to local customers, suppliers, or equipment sites as needed.

Technical Competence “good to have”

  • Familiarity with programming techniques for automated systems or robotics.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical diagrams, power schemes, and controls systems.
  • Exposure to SAP or other ERP systems.

Education And/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a closely related field
  • 4+ years of professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Communication/Language Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) are a must
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical documents

Pay: $19/hour. Not benefit eligible except where required by Colorado laws
