Summary
SUMMARY: Performs legal technical and administrative support for General Counsel and legal department as directed. Primary responsibilities include maintaining and organizing legal files and contracts, conducting legal research and drafting correspondence and documents. Acts as a liaison between General Counsel and employees, staff, patients, opposing and co-counsel, clients and other interested parties to facilitate the business of General Counsel. Examines documents to ensure that all necessary legal steps and points have been covered, all legal deadlines and due process requirements are met. Performs related duties as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
Education: Associate’s degree or some college coursework required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
Minimum Experience: Five years experience as paralegal or legal assistant, in medical/healthcare organization preferred.
PAY RANGE: $31.20 - $51.97/hour
The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licenses and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization. - Assesses the urgency of situations and determines appropriate action; relays obligations as well as ramifications if issues not handled in a timely manner.
- Assist the General Counsel in managing claims by responding to requests for documentation and coordinating depositions.
- Conserves legal documentation tracking and organization systems.
- Coordinates completion of insurance applications, facilitates communications with outside insurers for submission of data, and other necessary activities relating to the insurance programs of the health system as directed by the General Counsel.
- Directs and trains management and staff on complying with legal requirements including interpreting and clarifying terms and conditions on legal matters.
- Directs the research and preparation of supporting documents ensuring fulfillment of obligations; reviews detailed information for accuracy and completeness.
- Independently research, compile and organize confidential information. Compose and coordinate large amounts of contractual language and terms to ensure contracts are executed accurately and timely; Prepare legal correspondence independently.
- Interfaces and coordinates with outside counsel to obtain and exchange information and documentation.
- Monitors status of pending items to assure completion within desired timetables.
- Set up and maintain contract and legal files using appropriate software systems.
