Role Overview
As the Logistics Director, you will be the strategic leader driving the smooth delivery of thousands of meals daily. Reporting to the COO, you will oversee Logistics Managers, drivers, and the routing team. Your focus will be on building scalable, efficient systems and ensuring flawless execution from dispatch to delivery, ultimately upholding Kommissary’s reputation for excellence and operational precision.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the logistics department, ensuring timely, safe, and efficient meal deliveries.
Develop and refine route planning, dispatch, and tracking systems to optimize delivery performance and cost control.
Oversee compliance with DOT, safety standards, and food transportation regulations; implement ongoing training and process improvements.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including operations, client services, and culinary—to align logistics strategies with overall business goals.
Establish and monitor KPIs, using data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement and resolve operational bottlenecks. Manage fleet maintenance schedules, ensure the effective use of routing software, and drive technology adoption for streamlined operations.
Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing logistics team, providing strong leadership and mentorship.
Support special projects and provide strategic input on evolving business needs.
Maintaining a fleet of refrigerated cargo vans and box trucks.
Qualifications
5+ years of logistics, transportation, or supply chain leadership experience, preferably in food service, meal delivery, or high-volume distribution.
Proven track record of managing managers and frontline teams in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
In-depth knowledge of NYC geography and delivery challenges, with hands-on experience using routing and dispatch systems. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a knack for transforming complex data into actionable insights.
Exceptional communication and leadership abilities, with fluency in English (bilingual in Spanish is a plus).
Ability to thrive under pressure and drive a culture of continuous improvement.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may need to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods of time. They must be able to ascend and descend staircases, ladders, and/or step stools and may be required to travel outside between buildings in varying outdoor weather conditions. The employee may also be regularly required to remain in a stationary position (sit or stand) for 85% of the time; regularly operate a vehicle and office machinery. The employee must be able to travel up to 80% of the time. Travel may vary in frequency and duration. The employee must demonstrate the ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 50 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
