Position Summary

The Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSE&Q) Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing HSE&Q for the Nexeo Plastics facilities in the North America region (Canada, Mexico and the United States). The ideal candidate will drive compliance with regional and federal regulations, develop and maintain HSE&Q systems, and promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage HSE&Q programs across all North American sites (Canada, Mexico, and the United States).
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, regional, and national safety, environmental, and quality regulations and standards in each country.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized HSE&Q policies and procedures aligned with best practices and tailored to regional legal requirements.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims processes, including incident reporting, documentation, insurer communication, and return-to-work programs, ensuring compliance with relevant laws in Canada, and the U.S.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and audits across the region to monitor HSE&Q performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, perform root cause analyses, and lead corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Deliver HSE&Q training, safety briefings, and onboarding programs to all levels of staff and contractors.
  • Collaborate with leadership to set HSE&Q objectives and KPIs, and monitor ongoing performance.
  • Maintain certifications and compliance with ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, third-party auditors, and insurance representatives.
  • Support sustainability initiatives and environmental risk management programs across the region.
  • Builds and obtains approval of Department expense budgets: Monitors budget spending, provides monthly forecasts, and operates within the approved budget.
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements (Education, Experience & Skills)

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, science, or related technical discipline.
  • 4 – 6 years HSE&Q experience, including multinational/regional responsibilities.
  • Experience in incident investigation/ evaluation and corrective actions experience required.
  • Proven knowledge of workers compensation laws and processes and procedures
  • Strong research and analysis skills with a passion for problem-solving
  • Experience in ISO 9001:2015 and Environment, Health, and Safety internal auditing required.
  • Knowledge of and experience in corporate policies, workers compensation, federal regulations, OSHA, ADA and EPA standards, programs and regulatory requirements.
  • Good communication skills capable of representing the company to regulatory agencies and customers.
  • Experience developing and implementing regulatory processes at a site or company level.
  • A proven ability to lead and influence without direct line authority.
  • Travel as necessary to support company objectives.
