Overview

The Park Compliance Officer educates and enforces the City ordinance pertaining to City maintained beaches and City Parks. This position will respond to citizen concerns and patrol a specifically assigned area to proactively identify violations in City Parks, beaches and public spaces. Park Compliance officer will educate the public concerning parks and beach maintenance as well as proper disposal of wastewater in the park system. This position generates written and photographic documentation of violations and attain civil abatement to provide evidence in criminal proceedings against violators where there is failure to comply.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and patrols in designated areas for ordinance violations by the public, patrol parks, beaches, and public spaces for violations such as illegal camping, dumping, littering and other ordinances violations and photograph violations
  • Communicates daily with citizens and educates the public regarding park and beach rules, and city ordinances
  • Issues citations for park and beach related ordinance violations within the park system
  • Enforces Beach Parking permit requirements, sells Beach Parking Permits and monitors Beach/Park camping
  • Documents all park and beach related citations, attach violation narratives and photo to case files
  • Prepares case documents and citations for charges filed in municipal court and testify when necessary, on behalf of the City of Copus Christi
  • Coordinates efforts with other departments to assist with park and beach related ordinance violations
  • Partners with Police Department, Fire Department and City’s Legal Department
  • Participates in Park community meetings; flier distribution; parade foot patrol, City Park, and beach sponsored functions and special events such as Spring Break, Holiday events and other special events
  • Issues citations for littering violations at special events and assist with traffic control when needed
  • Operates a city vehicle and will be responsible for all minor maintenance of assigned vehicles, including washing vehicle, interior up keeping, adding fluids and daily inspection logs

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

· Non-E xempt – Full-Time

· Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

· In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

· Associate’s degree (AA/AS); 2-year technical certificate

· Two (2) years of experience

Certifications, Licenses or other requirements

Required

· A valid driver’s license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of hire

Required within One (1) year of hire date

· CPR/First Aid/AED (Can be obtained by Department)

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
