Summary:

The Dallas Patient Care Technician (PCT) Apprenticeship program is a 4-month long, paid training program. The program gives participants an opportunity to earn a salary while learning about the role on the job. The program is in partnership with Dallas College (Dallas, TX campus).

As an apprentice, you will receive an active learning experience with on-the-job learning at Children’s Health at our Dallas campus. You will also experience classroom instruction at Dallas College to prepare you for the PCT position. Apprentices are full-time employees. Upon completion of the program, you will transition into a PCT position at Children’s Health Dallas.

Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: Minimum one year of general work experience preferred
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers within 90 days required; PPMAB within 90 days required

Responsibilities of a PCT Apprentice:

  • Actively participate and complete all components of the Children’s Health Patient Care Technician Apprenticeship Program
  • Prepare rooms for patient admission with appropriate equipment and supplies based on age and needs of patient
  • Perform basic patient care tasks including baths, vital signs, positioning, ambulating, appropriate disposal of hazardous waste
  • Documentation of intake/output or other tasks delegated by the registered nurse (RN) within the scope of job duties
  • Phlebotomy - Develop basic skills in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and universal precautions. Actively practice infection prevention, proper patient identification, labeling specimens and quality assurance, specimen handling, processing and accessioning
