Patient Education Manager, NF1 PN, Southeast - #134824

This is what you will do:
The NF1 PN Patient Education Managers (PEMs) are an empathetic and trusted educational resource for NF1 patients and families. They are responsible for engaging with the local NF1 patient community via 1:1 meetings; conducting unbranded and branded patient education at scale through programs; and (in close collaboration with Alexion’s Patient Advocacy team) partnering with local and regional NF1 advocacy groups to further raise awareness of NF1 burden, NF1 disease progression, and NF1 PN treatment.
In addition to these responsibilities, PEMs also refer patients and caregivers to Patient Access Navigators for case management support when starting on Alexion therapy and connect the NF1 community, as appropriate, to local advocacy networks and approved resources to best support patients and their families through the treatment journey.
You will be responsible for:
- Developing, in close partnership with Alexion Patient Advocacy and NF1 PN brand marketing, a regional patient engagement plan that strategically supports commercial priorities
- Coordinating frequently with key cross functional partners to execute local patient outreach compliantly and effectively (e.g.: Compliance, Legal, Marketing, Market Access, Medical, Patient Advocacy, Patient Services, etc.)
- Educating patients and caregivers via 1:1 meetings, including face-to-face interactions, about NF1 disease state, NF1 PN treatment, and Alexion’s patient support programs
- When possible, conducting impactful in-person or virtual educational events on behalf of Alexion to deliver disease and product information at scale
- Building a robust rare disease network of NF1 PN advocates via active participation in local advocacy events to identify educational needs, raise disease awareness, and promote patient empowerment
- Delivering on data driven performance objectives and effectively tracking and communicating year-to-date progress to cross functional partners and Alexion leadership
You will need to have:
- Minimum of 4 years business experience in the healthcare industry
- Experience engaging with patients and caregivers with rare/chronic conditions
- Empathy for others with proven ability to listen well, connect meaningfully, and present complex information in a clear and engaging manner during 1:1 meetings
- High initiative, solid work ethic, and consistent accountability
- Ability to adapt quickly and commitment to react positively to frequent change in a high-energy, fast paced environment
- Excellent presentation skills to diverse stakeholders in varied settings that will include groups of 150+ people
- Strong organizational capabilities that will facilitate strategic and efficient territory management over a large geography
- Ability to travel 60-80% of time, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to attend in-person impromptu trainings, educational programs, and business meetings as necessary. Potential territory to cover includes the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- The duties of this role are generally conducted in a field environment. As is typical of a field-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: travel by public transportation, automobile, train, or plane; work comfortably in a clinical setting; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; problem solve; engage in complex and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.
We would prefer for you to have:
- BA/BS degree is preferred, advanced degree a plus
- At least three years field-based experience in account management, patient education, or sales
- Experience assisting patients/caregivers
- Background in advocacy, counseling, nursing, rare disease support, or social work
- Understanding of community engagement groups and non-profit organizations
- Understanding of managed care and self-administered products
- Familiarity with relevant legal and regulatory components of the pharmaceutical and biotech industries; rare disease specific knowledge of these elements is a plus
- Knowledge of Oncologic, Neurologic, or Rare Disease conditions
- Bilingual speaker, Spanish
