Bockmon & Woody Electric Co., Inc. is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Assistant to support our Payroll Manager and accounting department. This essential role ensures accurate, timely payroll processing and compliance with union requirements and labor laws. Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

• Assist Payroll Manager with onboarding, payroll processing, layoff checks, and terminations.
• Review field time entries throughout the week and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain awareness of Union Local jurisdictions and update wage/fringe rate changes.
• Input updates into Jonas Accounting System and Fringe Benefit Statements.
• Process garnishments and complete EDD documentation.
• Support EDD benefit audit reporting.
• Enter monthly data for union reporting.
• Provide data entry for Target Marketing and OCIP (Owner-Controlled Insurance Program) reporting.
• Support new hire reporting (EDD DE34) and I-9 verifications.
• Distribute W-2s and 1095-C forms to employees.
• Complete EEO-1 and California Pay Data reports.
• Ensure compliance with labor laws and public works/DIR requirements.
• Utilize Microsoft Office, including SharePoint, for documentation and communication.
• Stay current with federal and state labor laws affecting payroll processes.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• 3-5 years of experience in payroll administration (construction/union experience is a plus).
  
  

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Familiarity with construction payroll practices and union agreements.
• Understanding of public works requirements and DIR labor code (strong plus).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and SharePoint).
• Experience using Jonas Construction Accounting Software or similar systems.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to manage time effectively and work occasional overtime or Saturdays as needed.

Schedule

• Full-Time (Monday to Friday)
