About The Marketing & Communications Department

Destination DC's Marketing & Communications team develops brand messaging, creative and marketing strategy for the brand we represent: Washington, DC. Our team includes graphic designers, project managers, an in-house photographer and videographer, content developers, social media specialists, advertising planners, PR gurus and more. We are responsible for shaping the image of Washington, DC as a world-class destination for locals, visitors and convention attendees. Position Summary

Reports to: Senior Manager of Photo & Video

Your primary function as our Photo & Video Apprenticeship is to assist DDC's award-winning photo & video team in their efforts to produce world-class creative assets that promote Washington, DC. The team includes our Sr. Manager, Photo & Video as photographer and DP, in-house producer, asset manager and creative director. Explore our work here.

We're looking for a creative, team player with a service-oriented mindset. You'll bring a positive and adaptable approach to projects, along with strategic thinking and a strong portfolio showcasing your editing skills. Show us that portfolio!

Your Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to):

  • Photo & Video Editing: undertake photo and video editing projects including color correction, audio mixing, sourcing music and more. This is the most important part of the role.
  • Asset Management: manage in-house produced photo and video assets, ensuring newly captured photo and video content is color-corrected, organized and tagged in creative cloud storage system, Air.
  • Hands-on Production (TBD): work closely with Sr. Manager, Photo & Video to capture photos and video footage for companywide needs: staging a space for optimal aesthetic look and feel, managing lighting, recording video and audio and more.
    • Note: hands-on production duties will be based on candidate's skillset and interests. Shooting photo and/or video is not a requirement of the role.


  • Your projects may include:
    • Color-correcting and organizing staff headshots
    • Editing video messages from Destination DC's president and CEO
    • Editing custom videos using existing b-roll footage for events, sales and marketing
    • Creating motion graphics including logos and text
    • Audit, organize and manage equipment closet
What You Bring: Knowledge, Competencies, Skills

  • Proven skills in editing photo and video projects; portfolio required.
  • Proven competency in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Motion graphics experience, a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Adaptability and a willingness to shift priorities as needed
  • A positive, empathetic, and collaborative approach
  • Eagerness to learn from a team of dynamic, engaged professionals working to promote Washington, DC and its vital hospitality and travel and tourism economy

Duration:

  • Commitment of a minimum of 3 months-6 months; June 2024-December 2024
    • The duration is subject to change with notice.
  • You must be able to commit at least 27-37 hours per week to the position.
  • Hours worked must be within the parameters of Monday-Friday, 8:45am-5pm EST to coincide with the operational hours of the office.
  • Must have access to reliable internet as position is hybrid and may require remote work.

Work Environment

This Apprentice will follow Destination DC's policies for staff and may work hybrid, coming into the office at a minimum on the department's designated days (Wednesday and Thursday). Apprentice may work from the office on other days, too. Apprentice must have reliable internet to work remotely.
