GAI Consultants has a career-building opportunity for a Project Civil Engineer 1 within our Power Business Unit’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Business Sector. This position is eligible for GAI’s flexible Hybrid workplace place/Telework Policy. This position will be based out of GAI’s Canton, OH, Homestead, PA, Cranberry Township, PA, Canonsburg, PA; Bridgeport, WV; Charleston, WV; or Glen Allen, VA offices. GAI’s Power Business Unit focuses on developing and supporting Energy, Institutional, Industrial, and Manufacturing clients. The primary focus of this position will be to lead our business sector’s efforts supporting the design, development, and execution of engineering projects within the oil and gas sector.

Job Duties:

  • Plans, designs, and facilitates civil engineer project design tasks such as site grading design, storm water analysis, access road design and associated tasks for planning, permitting, and construction of oil and gas infrastructure projects, including well pads, access roads, and storm water facilities serving oil and gas wells, pipelines, storage facilities, compressor sites and processing plants.
  • Performs technical and feasibility studies including site evaluations and assessments to determine project feasibility and requirements.
  • Collaborates with other professionals and discusses requirements with team members.
  • Uses computer programs to develop detailed designs.
  • Ensures that work products meet client, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Performs work with minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Handles complex issues and refers only the most complex issues to more experienced staff.
  • Possesses strong working knowledge of civil engineering design tasks and a positive attitude.
  • Possesses knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and analysis modules.
  • Performs moderate to complex civil design tasks while delegating more routine tasks to staff with less experience.
  • Mentor, guide and check the work of less experienced staff.
  • Strong team collaboration, oral and written communication, design expertise, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Adhere to the safety and quality procedures of GAI and our clients.
  • Travel to other offices/meet with clients/attend project-specific meetings

  • Knowledgeable of industry regulations and standard related to oil and gas engineering.
  • Applies thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering related to the variety of aspects affecting their organization.
  • Applies progressively acquired expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
  • Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting their practice and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of projects.
  • Leads projects of moderate complexity and scope or leads a major project.
  • Analyzes complex problems across specialty areas appropriate to the practice of engineering.
  • Analyzes ethical dilemmas to determine appropriate courses of action.

Minimum Years Of Experience

  • 10+ Years of Civil Engineering Experience
  • 5+ Years experience in the Oil and Gas Industry

Education

  • B.S. or M.S. Civil Engineering or related field

Certification/Licensure

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Occasionally serves as the technical advisor in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.
  • Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the practice for the purpose of recommending changes in projects or applications.
  • Occasionally develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.

Project and Task Management

  • Oversees a project team of engineers and technicians.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects.
  • Analyzes project management plans for complex engineering projects.
  • Understands project delivery uncertainties and uses risk management principles to address them.
  • Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.

Management Responsibility

  • Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
  • Mentors senior staff.
  • Integrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and fosters creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.

Communication Skills

  • Applies principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications.
  • Represents their area of specialty within the organization and liaises with related individuals and organizations.
  • Routinely interacts with organizational leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others.
  • Integrates concepts of effective teamwork and leadership
