Job Description The Scholar Immigration Specialist supports the academic mission of the university by advising international staff, faculty, and visiting scholars on how to maintain lawful nonimmigrant status. Also advises on cross-cultural issues, disseminates federal regulatory information to academic departments and service units as they pertain to J-1, H-1B, and other nonimmigrant classifications. This position requires a high level of knowledge of the current Federal Regulations affecting scholars and students of all visa types (F-1, J-1, H-1B, TN, E-3, O-1) used by the university to provide excellent advising to scholars, faculty, staff and campus units. Duties include providing services for scholars in the J-1 and H1-1B visas classifications as part of the International Scholar Team and to university departments and units hosting and employing scholars, including establishing strong working relationships with Ohio State departments and administrative offices, specifically with objectives related to providing scholar services; preparing and submitting a high volume of employment-based visa (H-1B) applications to the federal government (USCIS) on behalf of the university; serving as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) preparing a high volume of immigration documents for J-1 visiting scholars coming as part of the university's U.S. Department of State J-1 program; monitoring and submitting required information to the Department of Homeland Security via the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS); creating and providing training to departmental contacts on nonimmigrant regulatory issues; developing and implementing programs and services to support international scholars, and serving on committees. Minimum Education Required Master's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Required Qualifications Required: Master degree or equivalent education/experience; one year experience with nonimmigrant visa regulations, especially H-1B; excellent written and communication skills; good computer skills; demonstrated ability to work well and with great accuracy in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent resident status is required to carry out ARO duties. Must be able to work in a collaborative environment. Desired: Living/working/studying abroad; experience in the field of international education.

The target hiring range for this job profile is $49,800 - $66,400 The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
