Summary

The Senior Human Resource Generalist is a key contributor to the Human Resources function, responsible for advising leaders, supporting core HR initiatives, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies. This role plays a critical part in employee relations, workplace safety, and generalist responsibilities across multiple locations. The Senior Generalist partners closely with the HR Director to support strategic goals and act as a resource to HR team members and operational leaders. This position also serves as a strategic HR partner by identifying workforce trends, analyzing root causes, and helping develop practical, solution-focused recommendations that align with business needs.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Partners with the HR Director to advise managers on employee relations matters, corrective actions, and performance concerns. Leads or supports internal investigations, ensures fair and compliant resolution of employee complaints, and implements corrective actions.
  • Administers workers' compensation claims and partners with operations on timely reporting, documentation, and claim coordination.
  • Coordinates the Stay at Work program to support employee return-to-work opportunities and modified duty assignments.
  • Promotes workplace safety by conducting safety audits, participating in safety committee activities, and ensuring compliance with safety-related policies and training.
  • Identifies and tracks HR-related trends, provides root cause analysis, and helps develop solutions that address business challenges.
  • Interprets and applies employment laws and internal policies to ensure compliance across all locations. Provides guidance on policies and best-known practices to employees and managers.
  • Supports policy updates, handbook maintenance, and implementation of company-wide HR programs.
  • Provides direction, assistance, and support to HR Generalists and operational leaders regarding HR processes and best practices.
  • Assists with reporting and compliance documentation. Processes documentation and prepares reports or spreadsheets relating to personnel activities (benefits, staffing, recruitment, training, etc.).
  • Participates in HR-related projects and may lead cross-functional initiatives as assigned.
  • Remains up to date on HR policies, procedures, and state and federal employment laws.
  • Creates and maintains employee files as needed and within compliance procedures.
  • Responds to unemployment claims through dealership TPA.
  • Utilizes HR technology and systems to streamline processes and improve efficiency in HR operations.
  • Contributes to strategic planning efforts by aligning HR initiatives with overall business goals and objectives.
  • Mediates conflicts between employees and managers, ensuring fair and constructive outcomes.
  • Performs general HR duties and provides support across all areas of the department as needed to meet business demands.
  • Assists with day-to-day operations of the HR functions and duties.

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to work in the US.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have strong organizational & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel within Washington State approximately once per quarter, with additional travel as needed based on business needs.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required. At least 3 years of progressively responsible HR experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, with 5+ years of progressive HR experience. PHR or SHRM-CP certification strongly preferred.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Physical Demands

  • Standing: Must be able to work in a standing position when meeting with Customers or employees up to two (2) hours per day in intervals on concrete/asphalt surfaces.
  • Sitting: Must be able to sit for long periods
  • Walking: Various tasks will require as much as 100 yards on concrete/asphalt surfaces. 20-30% of the day will require walking in multiple increments.
  • Changing Position: Flexibility is allowed in making frequent position changes (standing, sitting, or walking) as necessary to physically perform routine tasks.
  • Carrying/Lifting: 20% to 30% of the day will be spent carrying or lifting paper(s), documents, files, etc. up to 10lbs.
  • Bending/Twisting: Certain tasks may require the employee to bend and/or twist from; waist, knees, neck, back, or arms.
  • Reaching/Handling: All tasks performed by the employee will require use of hands and arms (i.e. computers operation, writing, answering phones, grasping keys and or/ articles etc.) 95% of the day will require reaching and/or handling.

Work Environment

Will stand and move throughout the dealership facility (lot, showroom, service department, offices) for most of the shift. The work environment can change from an enclosed heated/cooled building or vehicle to an outdoor environment with uneven surfaces. Evening, holiday, and weekend work hours may be required on occasion. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Schedule

This position follows a defined hybrid schedule of 3 days in office and 2 days remote per week after a successful 90-day period. Remote work eligibility is contingent upon continued satisfactory performance and may be adjusted based on business needs.
