Job Description

As the Senior Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development you will:

  • Serve as strategic advisor to the CEO, helping shape the Enterprise strategy, including strategy formulation, development, and coordination with BU and functional strategies.
  • Lead the company’s strategic planning process, including creation of presentation materials for the Board of Directors meetings.
  • Collaborate with group presidents and other key internal stakeholders to support the execution of the company’s enterprise strategic goals (e.g., growth, resource reallocation, stewardship, capability building/workforce planning).
  • With CEO and group presidents, create, lead, and implement the company’s corporate M&A strategy, including presenting M&A strategy to the Board of Directors.
  • Assess the financial viability and strategic fit of new businesses within Agilent, including describing the size and growth of existing markets, opportunities and their potential return on investment.
  • Manage an active portfolio of acquisitions and divestitures for Agilent, including oversight of the target funnel process and the decision-making process, through to transaction close.
  • Help determine optimal business portfolio to ensure it brings value and competitive advantage beyond the sum of the individual businesses and optimizes overall risk exposure.
  • In collaboration with the business groups, source, qualify and prioritize a pipeline of future potential acquisitions, collaborations, in-licensing and other business transactions.
  • Lead the due diligence process on selected targets, being responsible for the business analysis including strategic positioning, financial modeling, competitive analyses, intellectual property review, and product research.
  • With Business leaders, lead with integration planning and post-close integration efforts. Provide an internal framework and process for business and functional integration/separation for acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Infuse insights on trends, competitive intelligence/benchmarks, competitive advantage, external best practices into the strategy and business.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry leaders, investment bankers, and financial entities.
  • Leads the Agilent Early-Stage Partnership venture fund, assessing, proposing and managing the overall portfolio of early-stage investments – suggest taking this out as well.
  • Effectively lead Agilent’s strategy and corporate development department team, a talented group of approximately 20 employees, including two vice presidents.

Within the first 18-24 months, the SVP Strategy and Corporate Development will successfully:

  • Partner with the CEO, CFO, Group Presidents, and other company leaders to develop Agilent’s Enterprise strategy, driving the strategic road map in emerging areas.
  • Elevate the strategic planning process across the organization by implementing an ongoing, efficient process that aligns with company goals.
  • Execute on relevant acquisitions, divestitures and/or partnerships that enhance growth, while meeting ROI expectations.

Ideal Candidate:

Our ideal candidate will have a successful SCD track record that includes developing short and long-term business strategies and plans, including identifying target companies, leading due diligence and negotiations, completing value-added acquisitions and successfully integrating them. In addition, this leader will have a track record with a variety of deal types, including divestitures, partnerships, venture investments and alliances.

A track record of success in providing effective practical advice to the CEO and Board, while advocating strong points of view in the context of business objectives. The candidate will be action-oriented and will possess a proven ability to lead key initiatives, motivate teams and importantly, collaborate cross-functionally with business unit leaders and other key stakeholders. They must be adept at using advanced analytical tools, financial models and strong valuation skills with a thorough understanding of industry trends and opportunities.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree, in science and/or business required; Advanced degree (M.B.A., Ph.D., M.S.) preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience within the life sciences and diagnostics markets, with at least 10 years in global strategy and business development.
  • Proven experience in shaping the corporate strategy.
  • Track record of creating value through M&A activity. Integration experience required.
  • Experience representing a company externally with investment bankers, business partners and service providers.

The US pay range for this full-time position is $348,800.00 - $545,000.00/yr, plus eligibility for bonus, stock and benefits. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum new hire pay for the position across the relevant US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
