Job Description

As the team's first full-time lead Software Engineer, you will work directly with our technical founder and a small but strong Product/Engineering team of five, consisting primarily of excellent, senior part-time contributors. Your role will focus on delivering rapid, iterative features as we drive toward product-market fit, while also building a sound, scalable, and maintainable codebase.

You will play a critical role in developing core features, technical infrastructure, and engineering team culture, ensuring rapid iteration, code quality, and long-term scalability. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys product development, and wants to have a foundational impact on both technology and company culture. We are specifically looking for a full-stack contributor with a specialty and emphasis on front-end mobile-responsive web development.

This is a remote, full-time, contract-to-hire role, with strong PST workday overlap required.

Key Responsibilities

• Ship scalable, high-performance, maintainable code across the stack.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design and product across the full development lifecycle, from problem definition and design to deployment, iteration, and scaling.
• Make critical technical decisions, laying the foundation for a high-performing platform, engineering team, and future growth.
• Champion an agile, lean development approach, prioritizing customer impact and iteration speed.
• Establish and maintain best practices in engineering, security, and infrastructure. Keep the platform updated at pace with key innovations in tools and technology.
• Help shape the technical team culture, fostering an environment of quality, curiosity, impact, and respect.
  
  

The Work & Tech Stack

Our stack includes Python, React, JavaScript, Tailwind or Less, and MongoDB (transitioning to PostgreSQL).

The Technical Challenges We Tackle Include

• Defragmenting the supply chain by aggregating inventory, standardizing SKUs, and aligning availability, pricing, and timing.
• Building inventory forecasting & insights to optimize supply and demand.
• Streamlining e-commerce workflows, including seamless buyer request matching and quoting.
• Designing intuitive, modern, and efficient user experiences that make complex workflows dead simple.
  
  

We think you would make a great Gather Flora Engineer if:

• 10+ years of experience writing performant, reliable, maintainable code in a production setting on teams of 10 or fewer engineers with 5K+ WAU.
• Your colleagues describe you as an excellent communicator who collaborates effectively with both technical and non-technical teammates.
• You have a hunger for customer impact, lean development approaches, and continuous learning.
• You possess an ownership mentality, taking initiative and driving projects forward independently.
• You prefer declarative formats, modern tooling, modular development, fast iterative feature delivery, continuous deployment, and integrated testing.
• You are available for on-call rotations as needed.
• Excellent written and verbal English skills.
• You have a proven track record of navigating ambiguity, prototyping solutions, prioritizing effectively, and delivering high-quality results.
