Essential Functions

Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the incumbent’s performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent’s immediate supervisor or manager.

  • Server/services management – works with system administrators II, software development, and application support teams to manage physical, virtual, and cloud services compute and storage environment.
  • Promotes the use of and utilizes automation wherever possible – automates and operationalizes repeated system administration tasks.
  • Assists with the server, network, storage, and application disaster recovery and business continuity. Including maintaining connectivity to internal and external networks (Internet, telephony) and colocation/cloud site(s).
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to plan and coordinate smaller-scale and routine technology projects from start to completion.
  • Develops expertise to train staff on new technologies or processes through technical documentation for internal use and team meetings.
  • Continuously seeks out training required to excel in this field including the pursuit of industry certifications.

Marginal Or Additional Functions

  • Assists in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future desktop hardware needs.
  • Conducts research on server, networking, and desktop products in support of innovative procurement and development efforts. Evaluates and recommends products for purchase.
  • Assists in system audit logging and automation of alerts to personnel of security issues.
  • Ensures minimum security standards are in place for systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Education, Licensure or Certification:

  • Knowledge of computer science or a closely related field as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Work Experience Or Related Experience

  • 1-3 years’ experience in system and network administration and troubleshooting required.
  • 1-3 years’ PC operating system support including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft server operating systems required.
  • Ability to work during scheduled downtime; weekend and holiday on-call duty required.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Good communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to interact and collaborate effectively with team members, technical staff, vendors, and internal customers as described is required. A strong customer service orientation is essential.
  • Implementing and supporting LAN, VLAN and WAN;
  • Experience working with ISPs and Telecom carriers a plus;
  • Monitoring network and application performance.
  • AWS / Azure / MS SCCM / MDM;
  • Incumbents must have a good attention for detail and be able to organize and manage license records and information as described. Good organizational and time management skills are required as is the ability to perform work with little direction and work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Travel Requirements And Conditions

  • Travel is typically not required for this position but may be requested to servicing offsite locations and attend technical conferences or team meetings.

  • Work is generally preformed in an office environment or remote setting in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions.

Physical Requirements And Demands

  • Incumbent must have the ability to stand, sit, stoop, bend and reach to perform work on desktop applications as described. Must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment. Incumbent must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 50 lbs., and function in an environment with constant interruptions. The nature of this job requires considerable walking as well as exposure to electricity and electronic equipment.
