Position Introduction/Key Duties

Cimarron is seeking a Tooling Engineer to support a research and development program for a large aerospace and defense customer in Huntington Beach, CA.

Ideally, we would like this candidate to work on-site. However, this position can also be supported remotely .

Key Duties

  • Develop and maintain documentation to train new mechanics and engineering staff on tooling systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Coordinate tooling requirements with internal teams and external partners to support program goals.
  • Create and implement tooling strategies that improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
  • Generate tool orders and specifications based on engineering requirements.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of quality-compliant tooling.
  • Provide technical support to address tooling-related issues throughout design, production, and post-delivery phases.
  • Participate in design reviews to incorporate manufacturability and tooling considerations early in development.
  • Monitor tooling performance and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Create and release tool specifications and coordinate the fabrication and assembly of tool designs.


Required/Desired Skills, Experience, And Education

Required Skills, Experience, and Education :

  • Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
  • 3 or more years of experience in tooling engineering within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with tool design, selection, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and tooling requirements for various materials and components.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience managing suppliers and supporting procurement processes.
  • Excellent documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with the tool engineering processes and procedures used by a large aerospace or defense company.
  • Experience with various types of tooling, including rotational fixtures, lifting fixtures, handling fixtures, transportation fixtures, mill fixtures, assembly jigs, and drill jigs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.


Desired Skills, Experience, And Education

  • Proficiency with the tool engineering processes and procedures used by Boeing Defense Systems (BDS).
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with CNC programming and machining operations.
  • Knowledge of quality control techniques and measurement tools.
  • Experience working with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems.
  • Understanding of cost analysis and budget management for tooling programs.
  • Background in aerospace, automotive, or precision manufacturing industries.
  • Project management experience related to tooling implementation.
