Essential Job Functions
Provide day-to-day supervision and leadership to transit personnel, including bus drivers, dispatchers, and support staff.
Develop work schedules, assign duties, monitor employee performance, and ensure adequate staffing levels to meet operational demands.
Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and corrective action when necessary, and participate in hiring and promotional processes.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal transit regulations, safety protocols, and organizational policies.
Analyze service delivery, identify areas for improvement, and implement operational changes to enhance efficiency and rider experience.
Investigate service disruptions, accidents, customer complaints, and employee issues; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
Monitor Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and use data analytics to improve trip routing, on-time performance, and system reliability.
Coordinate the maintenance, and replacement of fleet vehicles, radio communication systems, and Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs).
Support ongoing training and development efforts, including safety instruction, new driver orientation, and refresher courses.
Assist with the development, revision, and implementation of the Driver Training Manual, safety guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
Operate Handitran or paratransit vehicles as needed to maintain service continuity during staff shortages or emergencies.
Other Job Functions
Supervise and coordinate daily work assignments to ensure timely and effective transit service delivery.
Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate bus drivers and other operational staff to promote professional growth and service excellence.
Plan, develop, and lead technical and safety training programs tailored to ensure regulatory compliance and operational readiness.
Regularly update and refine the Driver's Training Manual and training procedures to reflect industry best practices and regulatory changes.
Monitor and resolve ITS-related issues, including routing errors, real-time tracking inconsistencies, and performance metrics.

Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, Transportation, or a related field is preferred.
Equivalent experience in public transportation operations and supervision may be accepted in place of a degree.

- Strong understanding of city street layouts and traffic patterns.
- Able to identify key public locations such as schools, hospitals, government buildings, and transit hubs to support efficient route planning.
- Familiar with two-way radio use, including 10-code signals and proper communication protocols for coordinating with dispatch and field staff.
- Knowledge of how to plan and adjust transit routes using ITS tools like GPS, automated vehicle location (AVL) systems, and real-time traffic data to improve service efficiency and safety.
- Understanding of adult learning principles to effectively train operators.
- Knowledge of transportation techniques for senior citizens and passengers with disabilities to ensure safe, respectful service.
- Knowledge of human sensory skills as it relates to senior and disabled passengers.
Decision Making and Judgement
- Ability to make sound decisions quickly and independently, especially during service interruptions or emergency situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with drivers, staff, other city departments, and the public professionally and clearly.
- Skilled in supervising, training, and coaching transit drivers and other personnel to ensure quality service and compliance with safety standards
- Able to assess problems, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions to maintain on-time performance and rider satisfaction.
Attention t Detail and Information Processing
- Capable of understanding and applying detailed written and spoken instructions.
- Able to listen carefully and respond appropriately to radio and in-person communications.
- Proficient in using standard office and communication equipment, including computers, phones, two-way radios, and fax machines.
