Job Summary & Responsibilities
As a Transportation Safety Coordinator, you will work directly with our Compliance team, fleet management, dispatch, commercial driving staff and leadership team. This role will be responsible for creating a vision for our transportation safety program and implementing the path to achieve that vision. Your primary areas of focus are related to minimizing risks associated with driving commercial vehicles through helping to develop and implement a safety and training strategy, tracking progress of participants and staying informed of the rapidly and ever-changing regulatory environment surrounding hazardous materials and DOT requirements at local, state and federal levels. This role will promote, direct and coordinate safety efforts across multiple groups and locations throughout our company.

Job Summary & Responsibilities
As a Transportation Safety Coordinator, you will work directly with our Compliance team, fleet management, dispatch, commercial driving staff and leadership team. This role will be responsible for creating a vision for our transportation safety program and implementing the path to achieve that vision. Your primary areas of focus are related to minimizing risks associated with driving commercial vehicles through helping to develop and implement a safety and training strategy, tracking progress of participants and staying informed of the rapidly and ever-changing regulatory environment surrounding hazardous materials and DOT requirements at local, state and federal levels. This role will promote, direct and coordinate safety efforts across multiple groups and locations throughout our company.
- Plans, schedules and conducts safety meetings based on needs, training goals and objectives.
- Responds to emergency situations and investigates all accidents/incidents and maintains accident register and follows up with all involved parties, communicates with compliance and leadership, determines fault and provides post-accident/incident follow up and retrains drivers as required.
- Work with drivers, fleet and dispatch team to determine needs and develop action items/plans as needed to address concerns.
- Provide direction and guidance to location trainers. Develop and monitor contents of classroom and field training to ensure compliance. Teach classes as required and schedule and conduct re-certification and re-training when necessary or required.
- Communicates with government agencies, insurance providers, and other stakeholders to maintain compliance with safety regulations and to manage risk.
- There will be other projects, tasks and functions associated with this role as we continue to grow and find new challenges.
- Since we’re all about teamwork and getting the job done, your skill may be put to a lot of other uses!
- 3+ years’ experience in a safety related field such as trucking, transportation or logistics with a high school diploma or equivalent required
- with a high school diploma.
- Bachelor’s/Associate’s degree in related is preferred.
- You have demonstrated an ability to implement a vision and a cost effective, yet world class safety program for a hazardous materials truck transportation company.
- You have the ability to travel 50% of the time and sometimes without notice.
- You are patient and can remain levelheaded and effectively communicate while managing high intensity situations involving accidents and/or incidents.
- You know the basics of Microsoft’s Office Suite, TMW, PeopleNet or other Transportation software platforms and are capable of learning new programs.
- You communicate effectively. You write well and speak articulately. You are comfortable communicating in writing and over the phone.
- You are a proactive self-starter, able to work independently and within a team structure.
- You like helping people. You really enjoy exceeding someone else’s expectations.
