Department Summary

The Department of Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies offers students an interdisciplinary curriculum that focuses on the diverse experiences of women in both national and international contexts. The Department also examines the meaning of gender as a socially constructed category that shapes personal identities, beliefs, opportunities, and behaviors. The wide range of classes offered explores the intersections of gender, race, class, and sexuality; the institutional structures that have an impact on women’s and men’s lives; and the broad range of feminist theory that seeks to explain and influence women’s status in society. Among the areas of emphasis in Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies are gender and sexuality, queer studies, decolonial feminisms, cultural representation and literature, women and labor, feminist theory, critical race feminism, immigration and citizenship, and social activism.

Position Summary

The Department of Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies at the University of Oregon seeks qualified applicants for its open instructor pool. The pool is for part-time, temporary, limited duration teaching appointments not to exceed one year, with the possibility of renewal dependent on need and funding.

Potential areas of expertise include women's history, feminist theory, queer studies, gender and technology, gender and media, and feminist science fiction. This position may supervise graduate employees as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in Women's Gender, & Sexuality Studies OR
  • Master's degree in another area and demonstrated teaching experience in Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies

Professional Competencies

  • Professional experience, demonstrated ability or potential for quality teaching
  • Commitment to working effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies
