The Department of Economic Security, Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) strengthens Arizona communities by bridging and minimizing gaps to employment and independence.

DES is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Workforce Supervisor with the Workforce Solutions Administration (WSA). This position is responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and supervision of the daily activities of an operations team, setting priorities for the team to ensure task completion, and coordinating work activities with other supervisors. Decisions and problem-solving are guided by policies, procedures, and business plans. Depending on the assignment, leadership, coordination, and supervision are provided in an office environment or virtual environment for local or geographically dispersed teams. This position will be required to utilize a business methodology that drives continuous improvement.

Depending on the population served, must be willing and able to work in places of client gathering; housing or farm locations, rural remote areas of the state; correctional facilities; and to work outside of traditional 8-5 work hours

Job Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and coordinate daily work assignments according to a system of management principles; provide direction and instructions to staff to ensure efficient operation of the programs in area of responsibility.
  • Perform recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management functions to maintain an effective & efficient work environment.
  • Attend and conduct meetings for the dissemination of information and program compliance.
  • Design and implement procedures to ensure office operations and services are effective and efficient to meet program goals. Confer with management to resolve issues.
  • Collect, compile, analyze, and submit data and correspondence timely to all Division/Administration requests.
  • Interpret rules, regulations, and policies, along with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action mandates governing Department of Labor (DOL)/DES programs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Knowledge of labor market information and in-demand industries and occupations.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques, transferable skills, assessment tools, and strategies.
  • Knowledge of special needs of minority groups and disadvantaged persons.
  • Skill In leadership and developing the confidence, competence, and potential of individual staff and teams.
  • Skill in customer service, teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal communication, including de-escalation and conflict resolution.
  • Skill in written and verbal communication, including public speaking and presentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google, and data systems.
  • Ability to learn & apply applicable Federal and State laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lead professional staff in the delivery of employment and employer services, along with the ability to develop a positive, productive, motivated team-oriented work culture.
  • Ability to use Labor Market Information, in-demand industry, occupation, and transferable skills data to assess, advise, refer, prepare, and match job seekers, address barriers to employment, engage education and training resources to prepare job seekers, track job seeker progress and completion of education and training, match and refer the jobseeker to employment opportunities.
  • Travel to locations within assigned areas and to statewide meetings, which may include navigation in rural or otherwise difficult to locate areas.
  • Ability to promote ARIZONA@WORK verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.

Selective Preference(s)

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience or four (4) years of experience in public contact or customer service work experience, employment counseling, or recruitment.
  • Depending on assignment; experience working with farmworkers, refugees, and veterans; service-connected disabled veteran with other than a dishonorable discharge.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency's ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
  • All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
  • Travel will be required for State business. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Retirement

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred retirement investments.
