Working at the direction of the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the Assistant Vice President for Planning and Strategic Initiatives will lead priority initiatives, projects, special operations and programs.
In this role the incumbent will be responsible for:
- Providing definition, specification, articulation and clarity for project or program objectives and deliverables
- Mapping action and implementation plans
- Advancing, facilitating and tracking project effort and coordinating multi-faceted engagement
- Identifying, marshaling and coordinating internal and external resources to achieve objectives
- Building and convening teams and partnerships identified to advance selective strategic initiatives and operational and programmatic projects
- Scouting and assessing opportunities to enhance university efforts and problem solving to ensure path-finding momentum
- Developing communication plans, messaging and reports for identified projects and efforts to ensure alignment and focus, and optimize results
- Ensuring that all projects are aligned with and promote the mission and strategic plans of the University of Michigan and its leadership
- Driving all projects to timely and successful completion
The Assistant Vice President will interface regularly with other University senior leaders, and be a part of the EVPCFO’s senior leadership team. Interactions will also include additional staff inside and external to the University based on the particular projects or programs.

Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree is required, masters or equivalent is preferred. Ten years or more of senior level administrative work, strong financial management skills, experience developing and working in a highly interactive and collaborative team environment; demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution, demonstrated ability in managing staff and leadership through change, and working within a complex and collaborative administrative structure; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage various aspects of a complex organization. Experience supervising, mentoring and professionally developing a variety of staff. Ability to work proactively in a fast paced, dynamic unit and the ability to work independently and interactively as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary. Prior experience working to support university operations by developing and implementing offsite or satellite strategic operations.
