The Optum Privacy Associate Director role will be responsible for Optum Behavioral Care program support and privacy investigations. Program support will include a variety of privacy related tasks such as trainings, communications, goals, and material reviews, in addition to providing project management support for privacy-related policies and procedures, reporting, enhancements, risk assessments, and privacy state law compliance. The investigation support role will be able to access facts; work well with both employees and business peers; review all applicable documents, including policy or regulatory/legal requirements, such as HIPAA, state and federal privacy and behavioral health laws; conduct legal risk assessments as well as analyze business risk and will work to build out remediation strategies in both circumstances. This individual will have solid privacy experience and an ability to be both a contributor on a daily investigative basis, as well as a leader in terms of strategically maturing the Privacy Department for Optum Behavioral Care. The position will also be expected to flex to support other businesses for both investigations and program support where necessary.

The Optum Privacy Associate Director will often work with Legal and business leadership throughout the course of investigations or programmatic activities. This individual will also interact with other UHG Enterprise privacy partners, as well as periodically work with Human Relations and Information Risk Management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participating in the development of business strategy and remediation for Optum Behavioral Care

  • Monitoring changes to requirements to mitigate risks and achieve compliance

  • Handling privacy incidents across Optum

  • Handling matters requiring notification to Health and Human Services, customers/clients, and individually impacted membership

  • Briefing leadership on higher profile investigations

  • Supporting the collection of data for reporting purposes and leading reporting efforts

  • Solving unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business

  • Assisting in identifying areas within Refresh and Optum wherein privacy training and communications may be appropriate and assist in both

  • Providing guidance to business leads on the permissible use and disclosure of patient, member, and customer information

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years degree

  • HIPAA, healthcare privacy and behavioral health law knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree or Juris Doctorate degree

  • 10+ years of experience in at least one of the following categories Legal/Compliance/Regulatory/Investigations/Privacy

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional or other designation

  • Familiarity with laws and regulations in the healthcare space

  • Solid team player with excellent people skills

  • Detail oriented

  • Sought out as expert

  • Serves as a leader/ mentor

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
