JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Career Services, is seeking applicants for a 10-month, Level 2 or Level 3 Career Counselor position, depending on the candidate’s background. This position, reporting to the Associate Director for Career Counseling, primarily meets with students for the purposes of clarifying students' career goals, engaging in career research, and developing an active strategy to reach career goals. These meetings occur within brief (10-15 minute) drop-in sessions and within scheduled (50-60 minute) career counseling appointments

The Career Counselors meet with undergraduate as well as graduate students from each academic college, use career self-assessment tools to assist students in making career decisions, and develop strategies with the students to aid in reaching career goals, such as securing internships, full-time employment, or acceptance into graduate/professional school programs

Further, the career counselor develops and delivers a range of career presentations for student classes and student organizations. Presentation topics include "Resume Building", "Interviewing", "Orientation to Career Services", "What Can I do with a major in ....", and "How to Conduct a Job / Internship Search", among other topics. Additionally, career counselors assist with our major events such as Career Services' Open Houses and Career Fairs

We are seeking applicants who strive to provide outstanding service to students, who are comfortable supporting and working with students who are uncertain of their career goals, and who excel and actively contribute within a team environment

This position typically requires a Master's degree or higher in Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related discipline, and 1 or more years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs

The counselor must be skilled at interpersonal counseling, demonstrate multicultural competence, and be grounded in both career and personal development theory. Please submit a cover letter and resume with your application
