The Oklahoma History Center (OHC) houses the Oklahoma History Center Museum, Research Center, the State Historic Preservation Office and the Oklahoma Historical Society’s (OHS) administration and Museums and Sites offices., The OHS is an agency of the State of Oklahoma and a private membership organization governed by a Board of Directors.
The mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society is to collect, preserve, and share the history and culture of the state of Oklahoma and its people. The OHS was founded on May 27, 1893, by members of the Territorial Press Association. In 1918, the OHS was relocated to the State Capitol, and in 1930, it was moved to the Wiley Post building. In 2005 came the opening of the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. Over the years the OHS has developed numerous collections, programs, research centers, museums, historic homes, and military sites across the state.
About The Role
The Adult Programs Educator will be a member of a cross-disciplinary team and assist in all day-to-day operations of the Learning and Engagement staff inside the Oklahoma History Center Museum (OHCM). This position will report to the OHCM Deputy Director. This role focuses on ensuring adult programming and events are an emphasis of visiting the OHCM. The Adult Program Educator promotes a visitor experience consistent with the mission of the Oklahoma Historical Society.
The ideal candidate will possess a college degree in a relevant field and 2+ years of experience in program management, curriculum development, or program implementation. The Adult Programs Educator must have strong interpersonal skills and be a team player with the ability to work effectively with staff and stakeholders. This position is both customer service and program centric.
Requirements
Physical requirements include stooping, kneeling, bending, standing, squatting/crouching, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing (including ladders), reaching above the shoulders and lifting up to 40 lbs. Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as boxes may be required.

- Lead the creation and execution of innovative learning experiences such as adult classes, member previews, donor cultivation events, and public drop-in programs tied to OHCM’S major upcoming exhibits and Oklahoma history. Package
- Act as the Learning and Engagement liaison to the Volunteer Department ensuring seamless communication of program needs and prompt coordination of volunteer assignments and trainings.
- Develop and implement volunteer training for tour guides, hands-on cart facilitators, and living history interpreters
- Perform necessary duties to assist the Oklahoma National History Day Coordinator, including teacher and student workshops, the development of student and teacher resource sheets, implementation of expansion efforts as approved by the State Coordinator, and judge/student registration for the state contest
- Assist with the development of social media copy, gathering program photos, videos, and collaborating with the social media coordinator on timely content for scheduled posts. Research and coordinate with community functions and events for partnership and marketing of the Oklahoma History Center Museum
- Assist our school-group coordinator by staffing tours and delivering curriculum-aligned content during peak K–12 visits.
- Meet, engage, and give overviews to museum visitors
- Create, research, implement, and maintain living history characters for in-house and outreach programming
- Attend and learn traditional skills for implementation in classes and gallery interactions
- Provide monthly reports on education team accomplishments and goals
- Correspond with the public and museum staff through emails, meetings, and phone calls
- Form a year-end statistical analysis of all education classes and programs for the OHCM Deputy Director
- Other duties as assigned
