Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment within our facility. The Custodian will be responsible for a wide range of cleaning tasks, including servicing bathrooms, offices, and common areas, as well as performing floor care and maintaining equipment. This role is essential in promoting the overall comfort, health, and safety of our residents, staff, and visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Clean and service bathrooms, rooms, offices, and common areas within the facility.
- Perform floor maintenance, including mopping, buffing, waxing, and stripping floors as necessary.
- Sweep porches, vacuum, and spot-clean soiled areas on carpets.
- Dust and clean furniture, equipment, light fixtures, and vents to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Scour and polish bathtubs, sinks, mirrors, and similar surfaces to ensure cleanliness.
- Clean and disinfect bed mattresses, break down beds, and clean behind and under mattresses.
- Ensure trash baskets are emptied regularly, and rooms are properly arranged.
- Wash, dry, fold, and properly store residents’ clothing and linens when requested.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in utility storage rooms, ensuring they are free from fire hazards.
- Participate in the Quality Assurance Assessment system, including Mealtime Assessment, Environmental Assessment, and other evaluations.
- Clean and polish windows, sills, wooden doors, and glass in partitions to maintain a pristine appearance.
- Safely handle housekeeping supplies and operate utility carts, ensuring proper storage after use.
- Work collaboratively with other staff to ensure that all cleaning and maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and to the highest standard.
- Demonstrates flexibility and commitment to meeting unit needs.
- Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license and personal auto liability insurance.
- Prior custodial or housekeeping experience is a plus but not required.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment and follow safety protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good physical condition with the ability to lift, bend, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 70 lbs.
- Must be able to pull a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop.
- Required to regularly stand and walk.
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
Pre-employment screening:
- Complete criminal background
- Name checked in the registries. (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities)
- Drug testing
- Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements.
- Proof of employment history or references (if required)
