POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Fitness Attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of members while in the facility.
Essential Functions

Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in the healthy living environment.

The Fitness Attendant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of members while in the facility.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for managing the fitness floor at all times, while keeping all equipment inside and outside clean and in proper use, deep cleaning of gym when necessary.
- Show members how to use all equipment properly and safely and conduct teen orientations as needed.
- Report equipment, facility, or any safety issues to the appropriate director
- Monitor fitness floor and studios, take advantage of opportunities to assist members, and enforce all YMCA polices
- Assist Group Ex program instructors with set up/break down of equipment as well as monitoring attendance for classes.
- Encourage members to participate in incentive programs and support promotional and fundraising efforts
- Assist membership department with program recruitment, retention and recapture efforts that may include tours, phone calls, emails, appointment setting and follow up procedures.
- Communicates/collaborates with all other departments including by in-person, phone, email, and on walkie-talkies
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings
- Recognize, respond and correct any risk or safety issues
- Respond to emergency situations according to the Emergency Action Plan
- Perform all other job-related duties as requested and necessary

Qualifications
- CPR, AED and First Aid Certification. Certification must be maintained and current at all times.
- Minimum of 16 years of age, 18 years and older preferred
- Knowledge of exercise principals
- Ability to work and interact with a diverse group of people
- Ability to listen and speak to communicate with members
- All required online training must be completed before starting work, which will be compensated for accordingly
- Criminal record clearance
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds
- Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position including walking, bending, lifting of weights, and demonstrations of proper equipment use
- Ability to react to emergency situations in an indoor or outdoor environment
