Information Systems Assistant
Section 1 – Position Summary
This position is responsible for populating, maintaining, and managing information in various formats including, but not limited to: wastewater asset data, operations and maintenance reports, parts and equipment inventories, geospatial (GIS) data, laboratory data and records, and personnel records. The person should have excellent organization, communication, and data management skills, leveraging common administrative technology tools such as the Microsoft Office software suite. The person must have a high aptitude for learning database-driven administrative software.
Section 2 – Major Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a wastewater treatment environment. The position involves sitting (up to 8 hours per day), frequent standing, frequent walking, light to moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs.), light carrying, frequent bending and reaching, keyboarding and telephone operation. It often requires an irregular work schedule and overtime hours. Specific physical conditions require occasional work with chemicals, machinery, moving mechanical parts etc.
The duties and responsibilities are performed mostly indoors, but occasionally outdoors. Light exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, biological hazards, rain, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials and chemicals, machinery, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and water hazards are common.

Information Systems Assistant

Section 2 – Major Responsibilities
- Employ the Microsoft Office software suite to manage an array of operations, maintenance, and administrative data, providing valuable reports and information to other personnel.
- Provide front-office support duties such as reception desk activities, filing, administrative support, purchasing, scheduling, time card management, and other administrative duties.
- Achieve proficiency in use of and manage information in applications such as Maximo, Laserfiche, ESRI GIS, HACH-WIMS and various SQL-based reporting packages, as well the District’s Financial Information System (FIS) and other administrative software.
- Provide assistance to end users experiencing application, database and usability challenges.
- Suggest ways to improve information management, streamline processes, and increase the efficiency of knowledge management activities.
- Maintain a general understanding of water and wastewater processes and compliance practices.
- Establish, perform and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Works persistently with other NTMWD personnel to maintain and monitor accuracy of required documentation. Documentation will include regulatory, financial, maintenance, and key performance indicator reporting.
- Participate in team meetings and proactively provide input and suggestions.
- Maintain an understanding of NTMWD policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be a motivated self-starter, who is a quick learner and has the ability to work well individually and as a team member.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with supervisors, peers and subordinates.
- Highly comfortable with changing technology and data management tools.
- Must be very detail-orientated with good problem solving skills.
- Must be proficient using Microsoft word-processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
- Must be familiar with SQL databases and understand the importance of data integrity.
- Requires a high school diploma or GED (an associate degree or administrative certification is preferred).
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
