Humphrey Products is a Kalamazoo based manufacturer of pneumatic components and systems used in industry, medical, transportation and other applications. This position requires a BSME, BSEE or related BS with at least three years of experience in manufacturing engineering supporting, developing, and launching assembly and test processes.

Manufacturing Engineer Responsibilities

  • Develop processes, tooling, fixtures, and methods to produce new or improve existing products.
  • Involve CI Manufacturing Engineers, Operations, Maintenance, Product Engineers, and other areas as appropriate.
  • Provide cost estimates for engineering time, capital, tooling, and fixtures required for new processes.
  • Assure equipment designs are safe and provide ergonomic operation for manufacturing operators.
  • Meet cost, capital, and product performance goals with the process.
  • Assure minimum effective module sizes to allow volume linearity of capital where possible.
  • Develop Assembly and test line concepts that allow:
  • Flexible running of multiple product families with exchangeable or common tooling.
  • Labor linearity across multiple staffing levels.
  • Operation balancing across stations that provide efficient capital utilization and high line output.
  • 5 Sigma Process capability Cpk of 1.67 for KPC’s and Cpk of 1.33 for other dimensions.
  • PFMEA’s when required used up front to assure processes with low RPN’s.
  • Focus on design solutions, then tooling solutions and last, quality checks to address risk areas.
  • Error proofing applied at operation and in layered approach with other processes where feasible.
  • Items that must be operator checked should use layered checking if possible.
  • PCP process control plans developed for KPC’s, KCC’s etc. with SPC as appropriate.
  • Problem response charts for key product and process failure modes developed.
  • Processes designed for maintainability, planned and preventative maintenance.
  • PM plans loaded in the system with input from maintenance and others as appropriate.
  • Project management elements:
  • Provide timing Gant charts, cost and resource estimates for tooling and fixtures.
  • Assure hours are logged to appropriate projects and money spent to appropriate sub-projects.
  • Process Workbooks and associated operator standard work documents developed and released for key review meetings held for process concept/design and safety as appropriate.
  • ECO process packages raised, actions assigned, with follow up provided to assure close out.
