Incumbent works with the Sr. FSQA Manager, Plant management and associates to ensure the safety of all food products sold by UDF including frozen, fluid, commissary and ice. Ensures that all products manufactured by UDF conform to the products’ specifications and food safety standards.
Ideal candidate should have analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address complex challenges and drive continuous improvement initiatives for food safety and quality. This position has no direct reports but will rely on the candidate’s ability to influence, collaborate, train and sustain critical food safety and quality functions across all departments.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Education and Experience:
Interpersonal Ability: Ability to effectively manage staff and relationships with plant manager, plant maintenance staff, marketing staff and other department staff to ensure product safety and quality as well as cost effective operations.
Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and regulatory documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of company employees including those in production, marketing, marketing, accounting, retail and executive positions.
Math Ability: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Description

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Identifying, analyzing, and providing potential solutions to quality-related issues internally.
- Implement corrective actions (CAPA), monitor progress and communicate findings to key stakeholders.
- Assist with quality and food safety improvement project implementation.
- Focus on the development and implementation of quality management systems to ensure that all aspects of production and quality are aligned with recognized quality standards, SQF requirements, and work to continuously improve system effectiveness. Works closely with cross functional teams.
- Supply chain control coordinator, responsible for creating and monitoring adherence to UDF standards and policies, including but not limited to COA, LOG, various certificates/claims, GFSI reports, etc.
- Monitor customer complaints for emerging trends, communicate the data to key stakeholders and close out all open complaints in a timely manner in addition to maintaining customer request and entering portal information.
- Internal audits coordinator, responsible for creating a schedule to meet all regulatory and SQF requirements. perform the audits per schedule in a timely manner and build/train a team of internal auditors (cross functional)
- Support document control and management of change implementation and tracking.
- Coordinate in-house and 3rd party calibration activities to maintain compliance. Maintaining documentation and calibration register.
- Maintains proficiency and understanding of food regulations and leads communication with the teams to aid in ongoing compliance. (SQF Practitioners compliance, HAACP).
- Responsible for ensuring that QC holds and non-conforming materials are identified, segregated, processed, handled, stored, and dispositioned in a manner consistent with company food safety and quality policies as well as regulatory requirements.
- Helps ensure the respect of quality procedures and leads all continuous improvement process for UDF to improve food safety culture.
- Assists Management by providing inputs for monthly KPI’s. Provides feedback to assist Quality management in ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
- Participates in regulatory & Food Safety, etc.... audits and aiding in compliance requirements for FDA, USDA, BRC, SQF inspectors / auditors.
- Participation in production and other meetings as necessary for smooth and continuous production flow.
- Serves as a resource / reference to production team members on quality related issues.
- Monitors and audits that safety practices are properly followed, including adherence to proper PPE requirements, safety, role modeling behavior and maintaining clean and organized workspaces.
- Pro-actively seeks to correct unsafe conditions and reports any conditions that are not immediately resolved.
- Coaches and models behaviors for team members for appropriate processes and facilitate problem solving through teamwork and the promotion of a respectful environment, to include conducting and leading team meetings.
- Additional duties as requested or assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field (preferred)
- 3–5 years of experience in food safety, SQF, HACCP or food safety related manufacturing environment

- Ability to operate in a complex, rapidly changing environment while adhering to tight schedules and multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated program management skills and proven ability to balance multiple programs in varying degrees of implementation to meet key deadlines.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and attention to detail skills are required.
- Must be well-organized and able to coordinate multiple tasks and requests.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and possess the ability to present information to external and internal groups
- Proven experience supporting SQF, FDA, or USDA compliance programs, audits, etc.
- Proven track record of being able to collaborate with key stakeholders across functions and levels.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, MS BI
- Proficient in Tech Wizard and/or Genesis product development software
- Advanced understanding of SAGE ERP or similar systems preferred
- Office-based with frequent floor presence and interaction with QA team, management and production teams.
- Must be able to perform work in freezer/cooler environments as needed
- Occasional evening/weekend hours
- Stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs.
