Description
The California Emerging Infections Program (CEIP) is a program administered by Heluna Health. CEIP functions under a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is a collaborative effort involving the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, and several local health departments.
Under general direction from the Project Coordinator and Principal Investigator, the Project Operations Officer will support the goal of CEIP to assist local, state, and national efforts to conduct surveillance and applied epidemiologic research in emerging infectious diseases. This position will focus on the HPV-Impact surveillance effort to evaluate the impact of the HPV vaccines. The applicant should possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Work will be conducted at the California Department of Public Health Richmond office.
Salary for this role is $72,996

Essential Functions
Education/Experience
Masters degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field. This may be substituted with a Bachelors degree in Public Health or related Science (Biology, Statistics, Health Science) plus 2 years of public health experience.

Essential Functions
- Medical record data abstraction, data entry, and data edits
- Assist in the implementation and development of surveillance-related protocols
- Interact professionally and foster relationships with multiple levels of staff within healthcare delivery organizations, provider offices, and laboratories
- Track and manage tissue specimens for processing
- Lead the coordination of sub-projects and perform operational-level analysis under direction of project coordinator to identify and address issues in the development and maintenance of this surveillance system.
- Conduct preliminary data cleaning
- Prepare data (charts/tables) for presentation purposes. Assist and lead the uploading and monitoring of both electronic and paper-based laboratory records
- Ensure necessary follow-up and report submission to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Education/Experience
Masters degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field. This may be substituted with a Bachelors degree in Public Health or related Science (Biology, Statistics, Health Science) plus 2 years of public health experience.

- Experience working with protected health information and maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Understand medical terminology and have experience abstracting information from electronic medical records preferred.
- Strong knowledge of public health practices and methodology.
- Experience with basic data management and data analysis. Familiarity with a programming language (SAS/STATA/SPSS/R). Basic knowledge of SAS or R preferred.
- Experience with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to work in relational databases or effectively learn this skill.
